Bitch!!!
Got home early today so thought i would put new drop links on. got first one in and tightened up. then noticed that end that sits on strut was bent round a bit. thought that doesnt look right surely it wont steer properly so went and turned steering wheel, snap straight away. now is there any chance i can claim a new one off GSF as ive just took it out of box or is it my fault?

My honest opinion would be not to buy parts from places other than peugeot (and yes I know they cost a fortune - but you get what you pay for).....
Take it back and they will exchange it no problem ...

too true. I wouldnt buy any parts other than peugeot originals. I got through 3 after market speedo cables in 5 months, then bought a peugeot item and its still going now.................2 years later!

You what?! What a load of shite. I've never bought original Pug parts other than the ones you can only get from Pug. Whats the point in paying £8 odd for an oil filter that is £2.50 from GSF and is identical? Brake pads for a 1/3 of the price. A valeo rad that is exactly the same as the Pug item, but so much cheaper!! The list goes on...
You bought a bad one, simple as that. It happens. Take it back and they'll give you a refund.
I've used a hell of a lot of parts from GSF, Euro Car Parts etc that are a fraction of the price and have never caused me problems. A lot of these parts are actually o.e or o.e spec so are up to the same quality!
Buy original Pug stuff if you want, but you certainly pay the price...

I wasnt saying buy everything from pug - but things that are important like suspension and driveshafts .... not worth taking chances on some things ...
My old 205 had cheap wishbones fitted inc bushes and balljoints - lasted me 3 months ...
bought another set - lasted me 6 months ...
bought pug ones and they were fine for years ...

think off the top of my head that the pug NEW ones (not remanufactured like everywhere else) are about £40 each ... I work on the principle of - it it holds something on eg wheels suspension or engine then get a GENUINE NEW pug part ....

i havent had any gsf parts fail, but anything important i always buy new from pug...
bought a pair of droplinks from pug 18 months ago £34.11 each plus vat. got to agree tho theres nothing wrong with buying stuff other than proper pug parts, but there again i dont buy my clothes from matalan or T J Hughes, perhaps thats why me wallets never got any cash in it.

I can understand what your saying, god knows when I owned my cars when I first passed my test and had no money I had no choice but to buy non peugeot. ive owned the rallye for 3 years, Mi16 405 before that for 3 years, 205 GTi 1.9 and XS before that, nearly all the after market parts are not the same quality. If you want i'll dig 3 years worth of receipts for cr@p parts out that have cost me through the nose in the end, because they are not up to the OE manufacturers standards. Im not talking wiper blades and light bulbs here (service parts), I mean genuine parts that are not replicated no where near to manufacturers standards.
Tell you what, go and buy an ORIGINAL PEUGEOT exhaust mid section mounting rubber, then go and buy one from Motorparts, or car spares, then look at them both, feel them both, put them both on your car. The non OE one will be p@nts. Not moulded from the same grade rubber and injected into the mould rubbish. Ive bought both and the non OE deformed in 2 weeks.
On the Mi16, making me laff writing it,. Try buying a non OE exhaust gasket kit to fit the manifold. Blew the aftermarket one out in a day., The peugeot one lasted 2 years!

I bought droplinks from Euro car parts - and no problems in a year.
Also got a wheel bearing too (after messing about with the courier ;) ) - and thats going great guns too. Both were non-Citroen parts but made by the same manufacturers (according to ECP when questioned).
O/E sourced parts - of course if they are made in the same factory by the same people at the same time then they are likely to be of similar if not the same quality.
Aftermarket parts are different mind.

Its just frustrating. I used to work for a large motor manufacturer as an engineer, most of my friends still do, and I know how much effort goes into the development and use of the parts, that need to last a certain period (ie manufacturers warranty). Most of the after market parts are just not developed or have to mach the criteria that the originals did! very happy

It is a bit pot luck with gsf etc, quite often the bits are genuine but just not sold at pug's silly prices. the droplinks i got from euro car parts seem fine but only been on a few weeks, but the speedo cable i bought was missing the rubber ball that fits into the bulkhead, hence lots of engine noise making it to the cabin, bodged the old one onto it now, but shouldn't have to modify it to fit. But since the parts are generally less than half the price of pug ones you kinda get what you pay for.
