Dangerous Dave
03-12-2005, 12:47 PM
hahahaha, thats the spirit, like to know what you've done to the rallye to stop me standing a chance, My cammed VTS is a itsy bit quicker than Mankee's rallye, though he is faster to 60 due to the gearbox. Might have to make sure my car is working properly this time, exhaust was blowing so badly it sounded like a V8 at idle when i was last there

my rallye has a longmans 16v lump, lightened balanced bottom end 285 piper cams pulleys c2 vts big valve head flowed etc 42mm jenvey throttle bodies efi management raceline manifold lightened balanced flywheel 1.3 rallye box bout 180bhp. look forward to seeing you there!

what can you get 1/4 mile? my bog standard GTi got a 15.0 @ 93mph a few months ago. now i have BMC enclosed filter, scorpion exhaust and de-cat, stripped interior so the car weighs under 900kgs and a 1.1 gearbox :) im hoping for about 14.7-14.8 when i go in january. getting it cammed and mapped in february thats why i wanna go in january so i can see the difference cams make.

who you talking to nick? jan will be my first outing in mine im hoping for low 14's but we'll have to see. where are people setting their times? it seems strange there's such a variation. i've heard certain places are quicker than others. suppose if both cars are on the same track on the same day there can be no arguements.

good to see there seems to be a few people going in january anyway. hopefully il have poly windows by then cos im saving my 106rallye register sticker to go on them then everyone will know who i am!

Nick S
03-12-2005, 07:14 PM
i was talking to dave, what have you done to your car though to expect low 14's?

mick humphreys
04-12-2005, 04:47 PM
my spec rough spec is written a few posts up. got a longmans 180hp engine. im just going what other people with same engine have done in gti's and saxos. i think im the only rallye with this engine. best time yet is a red gti stripped out 14.01 i think at usc this year. other than that i know of a saxo doing 14.5 but i think thats fully interiored (is that a word?)

anyway we shall see in january. if i can get under 14.5 il be happy. thats if it dont rain like it normally does at pod!

Nick S
04-12-2005, 06:48 PM
my mate has a 106 thats stripped and weighs 830kgs and he has 160bhp and he should get around 14.3-14.5 i reckon you should get low 14's easy

Gregg

Not just rain, it snowed last time I was there  Still managed a 14.8s, but comparing times done on different days is slightly pointless, need to get you all there on the same day tongue out

Bit more gas and some slicks should sort you out mick ;)

mick humphreys
05-12-2005, 11:33 AM
dont i was soo tempted to get some gas. i looked into it but id need forged pistons and i'd wanna do it properly with progressive and all that and i dont really wanna be spending best part of two grand! plus it'd wear my engine out even faster than it probably is anyway!

slicks though i definitely want. anyone know of any that'll fit a 15 and still fit under the arches of an s1?

i dunno who much my car weighs by jan it should have hopefully no roof lining doors completly stripped poly windows and some speedlines. the rest of the interior has gone apart from dash and two sparco buckets. its gotta be sub 800kg after all that.

we should start a list to see who's coming. plus it night make a few people pull their finger out and get their cars finished!

i just realised who you are greg i recognised you're rallye seen it in performance gti a couple of times. is it dead?

Gregg
05-12-2005, 12:10 PM
My Rallye has appeared in PGTi at least once, that was before I had it though when the previous owner took it to a Saxo v 106 thrash. It's since been 16v'd,caged and then sadly rolled :( It's been re-shelled into an XSi now.

mick humphreys
05-12-2005, 01:03 PM
never mind lets hope the spirit carrys over into the xsi! what is the black tape on headlights thing all about? i shall be taking mine out at pod im going maximum weight loss! im even tempted to go on a diet

Who told u need forged pistions??

mick humphreys
05-12-2005, 05:38 PM
im pushing 180bhp from a 1600 as it is with n20 id be pushing at least 250. with that much power i'd need forged pistons if i wanted my engine to last more than 5 minutes. i haven't built it to be a drag car but it'll still be fun to see what it can do. if i wanted a drag car i'd have brought a turbo nova or something

Nick S
06-12-2005, 10:07 AM

Dangerous Dave
08-12-2005, 04:30 PM
haven't looked at the thread since. I'm sure you'll beat me should I race you, in fact I'd be interested to see the comparison. I don't think I'm the "speed daddy" because I have a new set of cams (they've been in the car for years FFS) but it is at the end of the day a laugh. Previously I've been doing 14s but as lots of said it is all down to the conditions on the day. I must say that I though that the "you told him with your spec" attitude was only confined to the VTR "masseeve". Nice to see some have upgraded to better cars

Nick S
08-12-2005, 06:18 PM
lol. its only a bit of a laugh dave. what did you run with the cams? 14.7-14.8? i think thats about the norm witht hose mods isn't it? i'm getting my GTi done february/march time. what cams you got?

Nick S

did you get the car re-mapped or did you go for a dastek or something similar? im going for the catcam 708's and gonna get the ecu re-mapped by wayne at jamsport i think.

Dangerous Dave
09-12-2005, 09:00 AM
Mine was the second saxo to be done by wayne at jamsport before I bought it. I saw it on the day and it changed my opinion of saxos a bit so when it came up for sale I went for it. PT51s seem to give more torque than catcams, I'd hunt out a set of those instead. Would definately go the remap route. My car produces 163bhp on the rollers and accelerates at exactly the same rate a CTR does (raced one twice at ece, EXACTLY the same all the way down the strip) with a full interior and returns 33mpg as an average over the 10k I've done in it. Mostly flatout and rarely on motorways. The other mods on my engine are a miltech 4-2-1 manifold, btb exhaust, bmc induction, ported and polished TB (really helps at idle I think, mine idles like a standard car, though most of waynes efforts do.) Most of the work over the past few months has been suspension and brake stuff. Straight lines are dull ;)

mick humphreys
09-12-2005, 04:27 PM
thats slanderous dave i've never owned a saxo! i know its all a bit of fun and really 1/4 mile times are pretty irrelevant cos there are so many variables that unless everyone is there on the same day. i didnt build my car for drag racing but you cant denie that it is a fun day out especially if there's a load of you going. a bit of competitiveness is fun.

for me though the most fun part of the day is the drive there! the roads around santa pod are great!

may be interested although i mite just wait until feb when i have my 708's fitted and drive to manchester to get it mapped by wayne,i spoke with tms about what cams to get and they said for the power and value they would always go with the catcams

Luke S
31-12-2005, 04:56 PM

im going on the 22nd

what sort of times should a stripped S1 16v with, simota, 4-2-1 mani and pugsport do?

i know its all down to driver and weather conditions, but a guestimate would be good?

if you can drive it to it's full potential between 14.8-15.2 for that setup. that's IF you know how to really rape it. :D

Didnt realise there was a thread about this.
Was actually talking to mankee about it a few hours ago.
We decided we werent going to go on 22nd because:
1. it is the 1st of the year and so will probably be busy.
2. it will be cold brrrrrrrrrrrrr
3. Chances are it will be wet and so by the time they dry and warm up the stip will probably be about 11ish
so with the strip possibly being wet and it being busy you probably wouldnt get many runs.

Also dont forget that the price has gone up.
10 per person through the door, and 20 for running your shed.

Do you class mine as a saxo or a rallye?
as it was originally a saxo ;) but there is very little saxo left.

We were possibly thinking of going on 12th February as it is warmer, dryer and possibly less busy.

You have 2 choices as I see it, it's either a:

1) Sallye, or
2) Raaxo (said in your best West Country accent)

Hope that helps ;)

(I prefer the 1st one... :))

i would have thought you should get quicker than that? my gti got a 14.8 with cat back exhaust, filter and 1.1 box.

de-catted it now stripped over 50kgs. and im getting a 4-2-1 in jan. i want 14.7 or lower :D

Danxs

my cars best so far is 16.9 :s , but that was with a hooned clutch and gear box, be happy with anything below a 16.5!

how reliable is the 1.1 box cuz im thinking of changing the box in gti for either a rallye box or maybe if it aint gona brake every week a 1.1 box. but i sold my rallye because i wanted a more reliable car so dont wanna be under the car every weekend.

as far as i know its the same box but with a different final drive? it's been very reliable to be honest mate. easy as you like to get hold of and make a hell of a difference for out of corner acceleration etc.
