Is it just me, or is Top Gear just getting better and better?! I know that its more of an entertainment show than a "car" show, but it is so entertaining!!! Last week they had the GT40, Zonda and F430 feature that was just superb, then this week they had their 10k supercar feature!

I suppose I liked it more as they started in Bristol then drove to and round Castle Combe circuit so I could relate to it, but i'm already itching to watch next week's episode! Clarkson driving the Veyron is going to be worth waiting for!!

Anyone else watch it? :p

Yep, it's getting better every week. I read Clarksons article on the Veyron last week, 252mph!!!! - Said he had to slow down cos he had suddenly got the Alps!

Yeah it was interesting but I don't like when anyone disrespects a car by driving it into a hedge...

See I would take their 10K 70's supercar and rebuild it with a further 5K.... Then it would work very well..

Ye I cant rate Top Gear enough. Its the only thing on TV I thoroughly enjoy watching and it makes me laugh at the same time.

Only thing on tv that I can't miss every week!
The astra was embarressingly quick around combe, much faster than me :o but then the stig did look suicidal!!!
Looking at ellen macarthurs lap, it looked smooth, but never the fastest ever!

Edit - just checked on teh website, she was only 0.4 sec slower than Damon Hill!!

the suzuki has clearly become a faster car whether it be tyres, or just the fact it has only just bedded in

some car get faster after being serviced like the civic type R which apparently at each service has the vtec adjusted and rev limit changed, or so i heard

either way the car has clearly got faster !!!! either that or she is 2 sec quicker than the stig and beat a current F1 driver which has got to be bollox

He got ripped off or it was built by a chimpanzee who charges 1K an hour......

It aint exactly a high tech engine...

The Suzuki is obviously faster, like you say that time has beaten a pro racing driver and tbh her lap was not all that... Gambon I believe (I may have the wrong bloke) deserves to be up there for getting the car on 2 wheels in an awesome way...

And yeah the stig was going round that track in a suicidally rough manner...

On a lighter note though I hit a flood while overtaking a couple of cars tonight and that was fun, good thing I have brand new RE720 I only lost contact with the ground for a couple of secs, only a tad sideways I love my cars lift off control...

EDIT was gonna say it would be nice to get a benchmark time back on the board from teh stig and try to recalculate all the seperate times based on that...

Don't be too quick to diss Ellen MacArthur, she's set new standards in Ocean Racing, it didn't suprise me that much that she was that quick, she's feircely competitive and why shoudln't she be quicker than the others? Because she's a girl? Don't think so!

i was thinking more along the line of the fact that she doesnt generaly driver ever, although i guess this has it advantageds as she wont have preconcieved perceptions of how to drive fast and will purely go on what ths stig has told her

Top Gear is easily the best thing on TV at the moment.
I loved last nights as they combined my two big loves - mountain bikes and cars! The race with Gee Atherton was superb!

Can't wait to see what the 'race' across Europe turns out to be with the Veyron next week very happy

G-sport
05-12-2005, 12:05 PM
that race is gonna be crazy as...........i bet he gets to some crazy speeds

its slow around the test track though apparently as it handles abit poo clarkson describes it as a long distance cruisers

Many thanks.

No I dunno where you'd get them sorry.

Absolute quality show last night tho - can't believe how much power those supercars had lost! Good tribute to Richard Burns as well.

Can't wait for the Veyron next week. Reading evo, it sounded like Bugatti only let journos drive it in sicily so Clarkson must have some clout if they let him drive it over europe.

clarkson = car journo legend lol, i bet if he said iam gonna crash test it, is that ok ?, theywould let him lol

Agreed it was a good lap, but Ian Wrights lap a few weeks ago was all over the place, he really abused the car, and yet he came 3rd or something on the leaderboard, thats not right!

Were you watching the same lap? The one where she took to the grass etc, I wasn't watching closely but I certainly would disagree with your observation that G does not have some very valid points. Compounded by the fact that engines do gain power as they loosen up and in many cases give their best power just before they blow up so long as the compression is still good and the valve seats/compression rings make a good seal etc.

I very much doubt it was run in properly so the engine will likely make its best power quite early in its life and lose compression quicker than a well run in motor, fraid that is what happens when you abuse a new motor, cams bed in best at meduim rpm and no low rpm and rings etc bed in best when the engine is spinning freely at reasonable rpm (not on the gas). Modern tolerances supposedly suffer less under early abuse but I bet they still suffer...

sorry all shit. She made 1 mistake.
Therest was very controled and balanced.
Driving fast isn't all about being sideways and on 2 wheels
Oh and really people is this gutless car gonna gain that much power??????get real.
She did very well. Again!!!!

Well the show was ace again!

Nigel mansell is a legend.

The race was quality.

And as for the Bugatti *wipes away the drool*. In a race with a McF1 the F1 can go and get to 147mph before the Buggati even starts and it will still be second to 200mph! 100 to fill the tank and flat out its gone in 12m hahahahaa.
