Right.

Can someone please give me the ins and outs of a ecu. How can only one work one engine. Every engine has to have its own ecu and loom.

If i bought an engine to fit into a car which previously had a 16 valver init but its broke...and it got an unlocked ecu, how much would it cost roughly to unlock it and how isit done and can a normal garage do it? Thanks.

ECU doctor - need to send your ECU to them and they unlock it for you. Costs about 140 ish, and takes about 3 days.

No.
The ecu doctor is a bloke based in Plymouth, you send the ecu to him, he unlocks it and sends it back. Others may be able todo the same, but I couldn't find anyone else to do my 3 plug vts engine.

Technically if the engine is still in the car it belongs in, and you can start it, you can unlock it yourself by unplugging the immobiliser while its running.
