Saxo = Common
S1 Rallye = Fun, Raw + Fast
S2 Rallye = Fast + Refined, not so raw
306 = Family Car!

Saxo vtr - nooooooooooooo. technically very similar to a rallye s2 but with quite possibly the worst image problem a car has ever had since the vauxhall nova. drive one and have evreyone think you are a chav tosser.

s1 rallye - the bollox. stonking engine cracking fun. wont hear a bad word said about them.

s2 rallye - still a cracking car but not as raw or "special" feeling as the s1, a little dull in comparison imo

306 hdi - totally different kettle of fish to the above. superb engine that will eat miles and can be tuned to give big, reliable power. also look very nice i think and are a nice drive too.

not that i don't like 'em, cos i do, but if i had a pound for every saxo i see on the roads i'd be doing alright for myself. nuff said-get a rallye,s1 or s2, not 'everyone' has one like the saxo's, just us privileged few. god i sound up my own arse :D

I can admit that the S1 is probably the "drivers car", although i've never driven one, and I do recommend them to everyone looking at a new car

HOWEVER

If you really want exclusivety you must get an S2 ;) and don't forget Indigo is faster tongue out

what do you drive at the minute?

the 306 HDI or the VTR will be cheapest to insure.

I drive a mini cooper at the moment, its like a go kart but you
can hear every knock on the bloody thing. Ive got insurance
quotes on a 98' S2 rallye for 1300F/C and the vtr werent much cheaper.

If you've got a Mini Cooper it sounds like your ready to upgrade to a S1 106 Rallye. :grin:

How reliable are the rallyes?
Is the s2 more reliable than the s1? Is the s2 more comfotable?

Comfort is just the same, if you get a similar mileage S1/S2 reliability will be pertty much the same.

Expect head gasket replacement around 70-80k on either.

Wishbones are another things that may need/has been replaced on higher mileage cars.

The S1 pulls 5k rpm @ 80mph, the S2 pulls 4k rpm @ 80mph so if the car is fitted with a noisy exhaust it may get on your tits with a S1 on long m'way trips.

If S1's came in Indigo they'd be faster but you old boys aren't deserving of such a colour :cheese:

as standard the s2 rallye's are faster, they can also be made to be more hardcore, stripped, 16v etc.. rallye's are ace!

I think if your going to be doing motorway mileage, the S2 will be better suited as your not caining the engine all the time. But if it's weekend blasts etc. then it's a toss up between the two.

Be prepared to spend some money on maintainace once you get either rallye. I would say 3-500, this would make sure the car is tip top before you started getting those high revs!
