ok guys and gals i have had a look into a group buy for newman cams for the 106 GTI/VTS.

I have been quoted a price per set of £300 which is not too bad anyway but they would be willing to do a group buy thus saving a few £££.
I live near to the factory i think so this would mean i can collect them saving a some money on delivery too.

I am waiting for a reply on how much we can get the cams for a group buy but £300 is cheaper than catcams. Newman cams are a very respectable business indeed and have been around since 1966.
There is always a lot of interest in catcams and here is your chance to buy a brand new set for a good price.

Definately interested in theses as I have been looking at these recently. They do a few sets mind you, so which cams would it be? They do a set with slightly morel ift and duration than catcams

there is a lot of ineterest on the ssc about this deal but i think it will easier to deal with if all posts are done in this thread as it can be tracked easier rather than over two sites

Looking at the 8v cams. I want one thats useable on the road, but I'd rather have the power band higher up than the Fast Road cam they produce.

My injection is standard so I couldn't use the tarmac sprint one (what modificiations would be required for this cam to be used?).

Do you know if there's an in-between cam?

I have NO IDEA about lift, duration etc but was looking to buy catcam708s in the near future, do these cams offer the same gains as the catcams but are just loads cheaper???

UPDATE

These cams will take a week or two to be made and sent out
They can deliver the cams direct from teh factory to your house for £10+VAT which i think is quite good as it will be recorded delivery and this then saves time as its cuts out the middle man i.e me
They have given me a web site which use thier cams www.lioliosracing.gr there is a engilsh bit

as regards to power: as can be seen in a thread in the engine tuning section, cat cmas and newmans have the same duration, however newmans have a tiny bit less lift. So they will flow a bit less fuel air mixture but at half the price can you argue over 2-3bhp

Im gonna get in touch with them at some point to find out if the std injection will just limit performance on the fast road cam or if its a big no no, as ideally i want a slightly wilder cam than the "road cam" for my std 16v because of modifications i have planned in the future.

Otherwise i had best get saving for more modifying :)

After reviewing my situation i dont think i cna afford to buy the cams for myself, i cant afford them at this time of the year with uni etc.

This does not mean the group buy is over i just can not buy them myself.

I am happy for someone to take over, i can forward all teh details i have to whoever, or i cna make it so that everything goes through Newmans ( ie send your money direct to them, with your name and adress etc.
Newmans have said that they can havea individual cheque from everyone and will post them out to each individual.

If we all go seperately through newmans then surely there will be a set time period for everyone to have bought them by before the offer expires? I would have thought there will be a limited period else people could ring up months down the line and try and blag reductions.

A little bit of info on the 16v cams if you cant pick which to get The Phase1 cam will run with the Std ECU but will work better with a standalone ECU. if you are going to fit a stand alone ECU The Phase 3 cam will rev out higher giving more power at this range.and can be programmed to give the same low down Power as the Phase 1 Cam.

I also have around the same setup and i'm getting PH3 cams you you should be okay with a remap of the standard ECU with this cam as its is around the same spec as the Catcam 708 If you after a good tick over and a good allround balance of improvement get the PH1 but if your after more power and more mid to high range power go for the PH3 as the rev limiter can be raised to about 7500rpm on this cam.

If your going to get a remap of the standard ECU or running a standalone system i would go for a PH3 but its tottaly up to you guys.

You dont need pullys on the 16v engines as they have adjustable pulleys as standard.

I'm after a PH2 cam for a 1297 head. Heard there are piston clearance issues with a PH3 and the need for TB's or at least standalone if you want it to run half decent.

More than happy to be proved wrong, i'd love a PH3 if i knew it was viable :)

I was speaking to Sadako and were reckoning on roughly a 7-8% increase in power with the PH2. This is a total guess going by what we've seen before so don't take this as red, but in anyones book it ain't a massive increase.

But if its all the engine can take then that's the price for pay for being a skint flint who won't by forged pistons like me.

Time to go find someone who can say whether the PH3 will work as i want one :D

I'm getting the fast road cam as the tarmac sprint one is for throttle bodies.

And 'will not run on std injection' means you will need a remap to your fueling is correct because if you dont it wil start pinking on you and you can say bye bye to your engine lol.

when you next speak to newmans, can you get some better info on the tarmac spec 280 cams please dude, want to see what power they estimate and torque on 16v bodied engine. and what other engine mods will be needed for them

Yes you can order the 206 cam in the group buy it will count as a 16V one.

Newman don’t give power or torque figures other wise you end up in a pit pony race, But

with throttle bodies ECU and Exhaust system you should be looking at around 18%

increase.

The 288 cam will not require piston work but check with blue tack on the piston to

ensure a minimum of 1mm clearance on the exhaust valve.

Right at the moment i only have one cheque from belly_vts so i dont see a problem id Belly_vts is okay and we hit 15 tonight or tomorrow that i'll collect at the lowest price but it also means if i dont get 15 cheques in my hand then i'll have to send them all back and get new ones sent again so up to you guys.

Are all the cam profiles quoted on the liolios racing site available or is it just the profiles quoted on the newmans website??

They are the same profiles. What they did is changed the duration of the exhaust camshaft from 264 degrees to 256 and the cam lifting.
