How much did u pay for the paint? Do u have to rub the old paint down or just spray new paint straight on?

Benji
27-01-2007, 06:20 PM
cleaned up the old paint with a bit of scotch brite, then 2 coats. Used about .5L of paint! mixed with thinners & hardener mind.

Got a really good mate who did it for me, (he's a sprayer by trade).

what is the crack with this cage fitting - the plates that you have i presume are custom made by yourself

the ones that come with the cage i have used dont go go to the floor from where they need to be welded in - or where i have seen for instance vossy's plates welded in

so surly they cant be that strong in the event of a roll for instance

do you need to weld a further plates once your have attached the cage to these plates to reach to the floor

my mate suggested also welding the cage to the brackets rather than bolting it to the plates

is there any reason apart from taking the cage out for not doing this

sorry for long post - hope you dont mind :o

throw the ones with the kit in the bin, or weld up and make into an ornate ashtray.

Make some new ones from 3mm steel with nuts welded captive on the base so you don't need to access the underside.

You can weld the feet to the floor as well as the bolts but not without. Use M10's too, M8's are not man enough for the job.

I don't mind m8 :)

looking good benji.

a question your fitting a c2 engine righ t? have you modified the engine mount ? just it looks different to mine on my s2 rallye.

mines in nearly the same state at the moment just finished painting my engine bay and starting the inside this week because i've just had my cage brackets and seats rsils welded in.
I'm also a vehicle refinisher (sounds posh lol) so mine will be done with 2pak paint aswel so will have the same shine to it hehe.

Benji

Its a C2 alloy block, so the orginal S1 mounts will bolt stright on. S2's have slightly different engine mountings in the bay. Not sure why they changed apart from making the 16v fit better.

argh that'll explain it then. so are you making some subframes instead of weld bars in ? im guessing your using bucket seats.
also you know when TMS are getting any group a gearbox/lower engine mounts in ? me and my mate came accross last saturday but you was shuting up and he said he had none in stock.

Benji

Ahh so that was you in the rover! Simon was wondering of you were scouting out after his Evo6 which is parked in the garage.

Using OMP subframes with OMP fiberglass RS seats with 6 point sabelt harnesses.

Dought we'll get any in stock unless you order one, not many peeps after them anymore.

eye phil the guy who asked for the mount loves evos so that'll be why he was haveing a good look around it.

I work for TMS.

Well the prep crews over there arnt much to write home about, S16 for example couldn't even get there own C2R2 running, and 2 of the charles hurst built R2's rolled as there rear suspesion was wrong.

People are totally entitled to their opinions, just need backup with them :)

Im a international scrutineer checking and scrutineering cars all over the world and dont have to back my self up but if you think it would help i will. TMS have built 3 cars that have competed in rallies, 2 have crashed and the third has been said to allegedly only produce 147bhp on the rolling road. I also know of the owner of the first car and he never did an event in the car as he was, his words "dissapointed with it". Also Charles Hurst have held an open day for the C2R2 with Chris Meeke and Citroen Sport tech people to help and answer questions etc, TMS said this was going to happen but never did. This seems to be a common thing, lots of promises and no results. I was actually only looking at the thread as i was admiring the work you have done on your 106.

Benji

I know of one of the crashes, which was a White R2 with all the citroen side slashes on, Belonging to a Mr P Manton (this was after he crashed the Blue R2 which wasn't even his car, which had done 6 previous rallys without any problems which was driven by I Roache). The Other im guessing your refering to is the Kildare Crash Centre car with the 147hp & P Mantons (been rebuilt i assume?). Now there lies a large topic... which i could go into detail with, but theres not much point as it hasn't been resolved.

TMS is very small operation with only 3 Staff currently. I can't say anything about promises as i don't do anything on that side of the company.

We are running a C2R2 Championship this coming year which could be promising mind.

Thanks for admiring the work on my 106 :)
