View Full Version : All gone

31-01-2007, 02:55 PM
I just got the little beast back from the paint shop and to say i was shocked with how good the work came out is an understatement. The guy has done work for us on my dads old porsche before and the quality was good but I was amazed at how well he has colourmatched the black so that its not obvious whats old and whats new paint. The cars being detailed this weekend and having its new set of decals put on. Pics will come after a good day of zymol and elbow grease. Nothing beats the feeling when something comes out so much better than you expected.

by the way the title "all gone" was referring to the stone chips and parking dings just incase anyone thought it was slightly random

Sounds good - can't wait to see the pics. A respray is something that I've considered as the paint on my car is shocking :yikes: Just the expense of it is the problem :o

31-01-2007, 03:19 PM
How much does this kinda thing cost?

31-01-2007, 03:31 PM
im sure ur not supposed to use any products on fresh paint....

31-01-2007, 03:32 PM
The drivers side for mine cost 300, 2 sizeable creases have been removed and someones crowbar handy work around the drivers lock also taken out, the stone chips to the rear arch were also pretty bad, but as a respray thats not bare metal goes i am well chuffed. 31-01-2007, 03:43 PM

Looks fantastic mate!

31-01-2007, 04:32 PM
If u asked very kindly he mite do baz but he doesnt like doing big bits at once, we had to pressure him to do this and it was only the drivers side. At least he does a top job though. Hes based in welling as well so very local. I will show you the paint on my dads porker sometime and thats where the real quality lies. The metallic match on that is perfect.

Thanx Jamie I just wish i could have afforded to have the whole car done, but at least Ive dealt with thr worst side so after the paints settled Ill set about rubbing her in lovley zymol.

31-01-2007, 04:37 PM
Lovely, I might be wrong, but should you not wait a while for the paint to properly harden before polishing it, I'm sure I've read it somewhere

31-01-2007, 04:45 PM
Yeah it got sprayed sunday and waited in some sort of isolation booth thingy in the paint shop so nothing could attach itself to the paint, dust etc. It was then left to harden and dry till today and apprantly by sunday the guy said no problem in polishing, apprantly if it was metallic id have to wait alot longer.

I trust him as hes done loads of work before he also said any cracks of swirls that appear bring it back and he will redo for free.

Shiny as!!!

Anyone got a rough idea of how i go about tiger sealing my arch back on? Same method as grouting? help......

I fibreglass three or four nylon bolts into the arch, that way you don't go squirting tiger seal everywhere and you can take them off to clean them in future ;)

31-01-2007, 05:13 PM
Found a pic of the whole car, even though i like it just black I just dont think a clean black S1 with fresh decals can be beaten. http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f151/Joehow12/SSM10565.jpghttp://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f151/Joehow12/SSM10562.jpg

Thanx for all being so nice about the little thing, I was lucky that the paint wasnt actually that bad and all I had to have was a drivers side respray. Im getting the stone chips on the front bumper done soon enough but first gonna have the interoir cleaned and the seats all steamed. Would be good at fcs or the next event when most attend to get a couple of shots of a few nice black s1's together.

I cant wait to get the decals on now. :D I will get pics up as soon as thats done

lol sure only i dont drink!
Fancy giving me a hand, Iv got a MOT in two weeks and the cars off the road again.
Got the bits to put my 4-pots on and my coilovers sitting in my room! woo hoo

01-02-2007, 11:01 AM
Id love to baz but as im about as techinically minded as a dead frog I doubt id be much help, i would no doubt just get in the way. I am more suited to easy jobs such as cleaning air filter and putting a few bolts in a radiator. I got a free house soon enough and should be able to get some cars of the drive if you can get it round i will help go over the whole thing and tidy it up etc if you get around to doing that and it gets through the mot which im sure it will.
