View Full Version : Black S2 8v from Greece

Hey there!

In this topic I will make a presentation of my precious! :D

It first rolled on the streets in February 1998 and after almost 10 years it came under my possesion. But it has been in my dreams since 1996, when I was only 14
I bought it 1 year ago from a guy who could'n care less about cars. It was 100% stock and it had never exceeded 4000rpm. Until the day I became the owner...

First thing was to change engine and gear oil (Amsoil AMO 10-40 and Elf TRP 75-80) and the air, oil and fuel filters as well.

My plan was to use it for track days, amateur track racing and ...um... Sunday sports in near by Mountain roads.

The current specs are very close to what I had in mind from the start. The basic idea was (and still is) to stay 8v. It was kind of a romantic choise, regarding the fact that in Greece we had 16v Rallies officially on sale from June 1998 'till the end of the production in 2003

Now I have to get some sleep, so more info, specs and photos in the forthcoming days!
Stay tuned!

It's skylos106 from www.trackday-special.gr :D
Of course we know each other!

So let's start from the beginning

1 day after the best purchase in my life

(on the plate reads "Beware of the dog" in greek)

First step was to install new pads and rotors

QH rotors 247/20,5 (stock size) and Ferodo DS2500 brake pads with Motul RBF600 brake fluid.

After several weeks I got myself a set of Yokohama S.drive summer tyres and made some changes to my seating position...

Sparco Sprint V seat, FIA approved and Sparco R325 (95mm) 3-spoke leather steering wheel.

Everything ok up to then, including a set of used Biridgestone Potenzas RE540S, stock size in black 14" steelies for track use.

The best is yet to come!

Well done mate!

Let's continue...

May 2008, Amateur Track Championship in Greece

Raced with my Potenzas there, one of them (front left in fact) became like this...

Cool :D

Cause it was my first ever participation in any form of motorsport, I just showed up and raced. Full interior plus stock spare tire

Next Race was in June and I was much more prepared

Same 540S's in the back and a set of used Silverstone FTZ-RR's in front.

Until that moment, the car is stock as far as engine and suspension are concerned.

Well ok, I installed a Sparco lower strut and a Sabelt upper one, but the engine was even with the stock air intake.

Next update: What happened when Summer was over...

Looks like a great example, welcome to the forum :)

Thanx a lot!

Now let's proceed to some engine modifications.

S1 Rallye Intake, TB and intake, with K&N panel.

A/C still existed in this photo... Several weeks after, it was out for good (at last)

Devil 4-2-1 Header and a hand made muffler.

And brand new Yoko A048's!

With this setup I participated to another Race in the same track as before

Suspension is still stock, as you can see :D
Increased Roll and pitch, due to semi slick tyres, but traction is supreme.

And then... destruction.
3 days after the race, the head gasket is over...
I think it's time for some more horsepower.

Pistons out, all in excellent condition, just change the rings for more reliability

Polished and ready to fit

Pistons in, so let's try the new TU5JP4 gasket

And the engine bay looks like this...

Slow and steady for 1500km for the new rings to seal propertly and then it' time for a track day in Serres Racing circuit (http://www.serrescircuit.gr/)

Everybody happy, except for my old Bridgestones and Silverstones, which became like that...

Bact to Athens and I come across a set of 14" Kosei K1's. Couldn't resist.

And my new gear lever :D

What have I forgot?
ECU mapping of course. Due to Increased compression and airflow, I had to do something.
So I went to a Dynapack 2000 and a new mapping was made.

Results? 118,7 HP (flywheel) and 14,8kgm of torgue.

Not bad for a stock-cam tuned 8v I think...
Compression Ratio is 11,1:1 and next step is to find a cam that won't require new pistons. Something about 285 degrees and 10,5mm I suppose.
Any suggestions? :D

Next modifications, besides the engine, will be a LSD and a set of new shocks.

Hi mate,
Congratulations for the project. I like it very much, but maybe mainly for the reason that black S2 is my weakness :D Do you have any new mods on your car? Especially the cam and LSD you’ve mentioned about?

Nevertheless Serres is not too far from Sofia so am considering the possibility to give a track day to my rallye there ;)
