My new project
Well as some of you saw i sold my old show car a few weeks ago, Pretty much the day after i did that i went and bought myself something else to play with. Well its a 1959 ford 100e, has 38k genuine miles on the clock and is really amazingly solid :veryhappy: My plans are to modernise the running gear/ electrics and heater etc so i can drive it daily :steer: Anyway here are some pics i hope you like:

And now the work has started on stripping it down to see if i can get a 2l zetec to fit in, goign to have to cut a gearbox tunnel in as well to get the 5speed box in, dont think i could stand the standard 3sp item for very long

Hope you like it :D

rallye_matt 09-03-2007 06:20 PM

Wow. Love it. What a great project!

I'm sure a valver would fit in there easily enough :p

kenich 09-03-2007 06:34 PM

ahahahaha - I love it but you gotta laugh! Test drive when its running please ;)

Dan T 09-03-2007 07:10 PM

 dont think you could handle the power arron  1.1 with 3 gears

Rallye James 09-03-2007 07:19 PM

Sweet! :D How much did that set you back? 38k miles! :yikes:

stealth106 10-03-2007 08:04 AM

G-Dub 10-03-2007 11:09 AM

That's pretty fly! Nice project

J Butler 10-03-2007 11:13 AM

Needs a YB haha

Ross Davis 10-03-2007 11:23 AM

wicked, that looks so rude.

good luck with it. that engine bay looks so simple lol.

Tom W 10-03-2007 01:31 PM

my cousin has also just bought one of these too. he had a mini pickup which he completly overhualed and through 10k at.

ill get some pics of his too

Dan T 03-07-2007 06:58 PM

Right then i realised i havnt updated this thread, completely forgot about it. Well here goes will mainly be pics as there is a fair amount i have done, If you want to ask questions then carry on :o

So heres some parts i got (march 07)

New thicker prop (next to the original)

5 speed type 9 box and quickshifter

and finally a pair of 2.8 capri uprights :D thanx to my mate nobby for those

So all in all a succesful day :D just need a diff, different cross member and a zetec then the dry build can begin :)

Dan T 03-07-2007 07:00 PM

engine is out :)

right then, a tiny bit more done. Got stopped by maggots  i think some mice have been living in the seats previously as all the insides of the rear seats are knackered. Want to bring some rubber gloves home before i deal with all the droppings and maggots

Also stole of engine of a mate :o

Dan T 03-07-2007 07:02 PM

Bit more shopping, world cup crossmember

Adjustable tca's

Dan T 03-07-2007 07:04 PM

Made up some plates to convert the capri mounts to fit my original 1003 mounting points

Have modified the escy world cup crossmember to fit the 100 chassis rails, The rails are a further 60mm apart than an escy

Also just tried all the tca's, anti roll bar and uprights together just to see if it all fits  obviously not tightened anything up

Also picked this up off a mate a few weeks ago :D a nice spec diff

Dan T 03-07-2007 07:06 PM

well had a couple of hours free this afternoon, so shot to bath and met a friend who gave me a zetec head to use :D dicked about there for a bit then came home. Decided it was a bout time i took an angle grinder to the 100  so heres the pics:

And about where the gearstick will be, i guess i shall be moving the handbrake then

Next on the agenda is cutting the tunnel for the gearbox and making some mounts up for that to sit on :D

Dan T 03-07-2007 07:07 PM

My precision measuring means that the hole was just big enough

What ive cut out so far

Dan T 03-07-2007 07:08 PM

right then got some bolts last ngith so slapped the wheels on and placed the wings on. This is how the suspension sits at the moment which is quite good :D a bit of adjustment is required to centre the wheel better but i may make an adjustable anti roll bar to do this :)

Have also just ordered some rear brakes and steering rack clamps which im hoping will arrive by the wknd :D

Dan T 03-07-2007 07:10 PM

Right then have made up the gearbox mount and fitted it, I made it then looked at it and thought that does not look right  so i redid part of it and now it fits fine so anyway pics of making it and the finished item on the car

the above compression bushes doing there job in the chassis rail

And fairly happy to see the angle finder showing this when i finished bolting it all up :D

Dan T 03-07-2007 07:11 PM

Had a bit of a slack wknd on it mainly as ive ran out of parts  hopefully my rear disc kit should arrive monday or tuesday. In readiness for this i have whipped the axle off to make room for the 105 item. Before it goes on i need to make some new spring mounts and weld them on in the same place as the original 100 axle :) Other than that all ive done this wknd is bought an alternator and bracket to check clearances, Just need a zetec starter now. Anyway just a couple of pics for now of rear out. There was so much room under there i was fairly happily sitting under there with plenty of room to work

Dan T 03-07-2007 07:13 PM

And that is all up to date pretty much :D sorry for the amount of pics, hope its not boring to you all :)

Far from boring mate, awesome stuff!

aidan boland 03-07-2007 07:34 PM

Nice work, keep it up

4D 03-07-2007 07:36 PM

The work you have carried out to date is commendable. You must have some kind of honours in engineering to design and manufacture those parts.

I too have a soft spot for the 100e, as I can remember riding in one as a boy.

Good luck with the project.

Dave_C 03-07-2007 09:17 PM

Thats awesome! Looks really nice.

Dan T 03-07-2007 10:00 PM

thanx for the comments people :) sean i have a motorsport engineering qualification and am a qualified welder and fabricator. Bizzarely i started my carreer as an IT technician :o Im hoping my rear disc conversion will arrive this week at some point so i can start on the rear axle

Thats it for now

Cheers Dan

ryancooke 03-07-2007 11:38 PM

 well done mate, nice progress, a local mechanic has just finished building one of these with the 2.0 zetec in it full rebuild and twin carbs, painted it a very bright green sounds a weird colour but looks amazing non the less

bengt40 04-07-2007 12:23 AM

i am loving that, going to be such a cool runaround!:)
what qualification in motorsport do you have?do you work for a motorsport company?
as i am doing a course at college atm and after my first year wouldnt be able to do anything like that!!

DaveDJ 04-07-2007 06:12 PM

Bloody Brilliant i must say! Looks awesome mate!

I wish i had the skills and patience to have a project lol

Dan T 04-07-2007 06:15 PM

i honestly cant remember what the qualification i did was  was a few years ago now at a specialist little college just outside oxford. I build roll cages and chassis at the moment so yeh am in the motorsport world, just the dirty end :D

hank_marvinson 04-07-2007 06:24 PM

wow! only just seen this! the gearbox mount is a stunning piece of work. its all pretty lush mind! should be cool as feck when its done

Rusty82 04-07-2007 06:51 PM

looks promising chap. good luck with the build.

peter86 04-07-2007 06:55 PM

lmao, WTF is that? (no offence mate):D

quik97 04-07-2007 07:22 PM

bloody welsh:p

Jim G 05-07-2007 03:50 PM

ha ha i thought that at first

excellent workmanship though mate - and will deffinately be something a bit different to potter around in hey :D

beastieboy 05-07-2007 09:30 PM

awesome build thread. I love classic stuff and can't wait to see what this turns out like.

Gus 05-07-2007 10:40 PM

I was thinking about this the other day!

semtex 05-07-2007 10:49 PM

bloody hell what a project :praise you:

Dan T 06-10-2007 11:01 AM

well not much to say on this really, havnt had very much time for months due to work and girlfriend so a few more pics for you :) basically have got the wider rear axle on with the leaf springs, but i am converting to use 4 link bars. bought a few other little bits and pieces

And the start of my 4 link kit, the rose joints for one end of them and metalastic bushes for other. My mate will be making me some threaded bushes for welding in the ends of the links for the rose joint, once i do him a drawing

My other half very nicely arranged them for me earlier too

Dan T 06-10-2007 11:02 AM

Also slapped the axle on to check the brake kit and hubs

And as its sat

small update, I havnt recieved my coilovers yet as they are special order apparently so take a couple of weeks :( In the meantime i have cut more out my bulkhead for the inlet to fit  Also the most scary job of the build so far, i have taken the windows out, ended up cutting most the seals out as they are knackered anyway. Also took teh headlining out to see if there were any horros undearneath and thankfully not. Not started on 4 links yet either as my tube i need isnt in stock at work, may make the plates for axle 2moro tho

Dan T 06-10-2007 11:06 AM

Coilover units still havnt arrived (useless twats at burtons) So anyway made a little bit for my gearbox tunnel. Made the plates that the 4 links bolt to on the axle today as i was bored this afternoon at work. Also some new headlights i ordered have arrived, i know its a bit early but they came up cheap on ebay only 25. They are halagon items so plenty bright enough for everyday use, Also have a cool LED ring about the outside  BLING

Thats all till i get some more time to make plates up for the car end of 4 links :)

cheers Dan

jon_ox 06-10-2007 03:28 PM

coming along nicely dan!!!

Lewis 08-10-2007 08:37 PM

you are a brave man taking on this! Your engineering skills are a credit to you though dude-those parts you have made are awesome!! Do you work for caged by any chance?

Dan T 09-10-2007 06:00 PM

yeh i do, what gives it away?

Dan T 23-01-2008 09:16 PM

right has been ages since i updated this :D To be honest i have not achieved much as i been busy trying to find flats/houses and working etc. So pics, here is the axle mounts tacked on and also tried on the car

And some pics of the shell mounts for the 4 links

And back on the ground, well floating as the coilover units are not on yet :)

Dan T 23-01-2008 09:21 PM

Tried some wheels fron a mates mk1 escort, looks quite nice on them but offset on the rear is not quite right :(

And bought some compression struts, loosely in place to see if they will work ok

Because of getting another 16v xsi i have put this car to the side for now, hopefully get back on it in a month or two :)
