S1 RALLYES ARE DYING OUT!! LESS THAN 800 LEFT NOW :-(

In the last 3 years we have sadly lost a massive 164 S1 Rallye's on the road

This number will be made up of mainly scrapped cars, but also some exports and SORNS.

Thats approx 50 a year off the road, so a big decline in last few years. You can imagine how many might be left in the next 10 years...

Currently just less than 800 registered and taxed on the road.

S2's are fairing slightly better, we have only lost about 35 in the last 3 years, but for the 1st time we now have less than 500 road going cars left. To put this into perspective, and show how rare the Rallye is, there are over 5700 106 GTi's in existence!!!

I will get a load of new 2007 stats up soon as I can....

Dave P 27-03-2007 07:36 PM

We're greedy we have 2 S1's.

Although my one is off the road...

scribbler 27-03-2007 07:39 PM

Bloody hell! that is a major kick in the nads for the Series1.

I had suspected this though, people who don't know what they are will just scrap them as soon as a major fault arrises.

This has just made me even more determined to turn L617jcx back to as mint condition as i can :)

Marcus 27-03-2007 07:40 PM

I best get mine quick then!!

darrenwm 27-03-2007 07:43 PM

Thanks, Mark.

Keep us up to date; I always love to know the stats.

106rallye.co.uk 27-03-2007 07:56 PM

I'm the king of stats lol!! spend half my time doing stats and graphs for work...

anyway back on topic, here are some more figures for you:

S1 Colours in 2003
BLACK 22%
RED 39%
WHITE 38%
OTHERS 1%

S1 Colours in 2006
BLACK 22%
RED 40%
WHITE 36%
OTHERS 2%

scribbler 27-03-2007 08:04 PM

Don't suppose you know how many s1's are left with their original engines?

Jimmers 27-03-2007 08:07 PM

Hmm, I always thought White was the "common" colour for rallyes, how wrong I was tongue out

And mines just blown an engine, but now way am I getting rid! rebuilding the 1300 as well :veryhappy:

not possible to find out, as not everyone updates the dvla if they change their engine, safe to say its less than 800 though ;)

106rallye.co.uk 27-03-2007 08:24 PM

lost a few female S1 owners too! we had 22% female ownership in 2003 but down to 16% in 2006

approx 125 S1 rallye owners are female, so plenty to go around then for the forum boys! (oh and for you Darren, 70 of them are not married!!!)

how come only bon and lindsay on here! where are the other 123!

Willis 27-03-2007 08:25 PM

Good work!!!

I keep seeing a Red S1 round here and it's and 8v... My mate asked him at the traffic lights before giving him some death in his Golf GTi the big goon. How did you find out how many there still are?

Bonnie 27-03-2007 08:28 PM

Ha ha, don't forget Sam B and Laura J :)

The stats show that 2% of white owners actually want a red one :D
Red maybe more common but things are common for a reason ;)

Willis 27-03-2007 08:43 PM

Dammit my S1 isn't as rare as an S2.

May have to buy one.

Muhahaha!!!

After I've finished fixing my S1 that is.

Mankee 27-03-2007 09:11 PM

Whoops. I feel a bit guilty now. I broke a black S1 Rallye for parts a couple of years ago, I have just today SORN'd my black S1 16v Rallye for a month or so while I'm away AND I'm breaking a white S1 right now (hopefully shell will be good for someone for a mad build or race car). Please don't kick me in the balls! :o

Lindsay S2 27-03-2007 09:12 PM

Never been a fan of the Black S1's:confused: - they look wrong, I dont have a clue why:confused: . I have yet to see a proper mint black S1 - actually I lie Joehow12's is mint. I guess they didnt import as many Black S1's in the first place - or are those the ones that have crashed/off road (SORN)?

Black ones cost more initially as it was an optional extra due to more pigment being required... or so i heard:o

jon_ox 27-03-2007 09:28 PM

im starting a restoration on a black s1 but breaking a black xsi lol i bet xsi's are quite rare now aswell, can you find out how meny xsi's are left im quite interested to see how meny are left compaired to the rallye

darrenwm 27-03-2007 11:22 PM

Apparently Black S2s are rare in the UK, so I might keep mine for a bit.

Interesting stats, Marcus.

Bonnie 27-03-2007 11:58 PM

Dave_C 27-03-2007 11:59 PM

Are the 1.6 XSi's rarer than the rallyes? I heard they were second rarest 106 after the roland garros!

Kiwis

Hey-Don't forget the kiwi contingent. I personally know of 8 cars going strong, but I understand there are 30 still running around (many raced still). Most of them were brought in and converted by Peugeot to a "Rallye clubsport" spec (peugeot sport dampers, stronger rear torsion bars, race chip) and a peugeot cup race run in the 90s. Mine is one of those, a mate has one brought in later and converted for racing in NZ rally.

All bianca white

Interesting stats ;) Never realised the black ones were so rare. I wonder what colour the other 2% are?

I'd be interested to know how many S reg's there are, if possible - I've heard it's around 50?

There wont be as many as R Reg's but the plate to have on an s2 is a T Reg as they are even rarer :)

There are alot less than i thought of Black s1's aswel :D

Hmmmm, T plate S2!

Also, I saw a girl in a white S2 the other day - Didn't catch the reg, but I think it was the one I always see round here, but usually driven by an older bloke

Fuzzy Orange 13-04-2007 10:57 AM

I'm really sorry I love rallyes but this does make me giggle every time I read it

Last car of mine was a 309 goodwood - only 300 were ever made, there was less than 150 on the road when I owned mine

Now thats rare ;) :p

c_robinson 15-04-2007 06:17 PM

We have 5 S1 Rallyes, 3 white and 2 red, and I think there are at least 3 others around Gloucestershire I see on a regular basis :)

I think only 800 odd were ever imported, so less rare than the S2 to begin with. Not sure how many are left now though (with original engines ;))

gunge22 15-04-2007 08:50 PM

my s1 in red will be back on the road in 2 weeks :) :) :)
