yes ideally you need a vernier so you can dial the cam in accurately, they aren't always on the same keyway angle as an oem cam, plus a head skim and different belt tension can alter cam timing too.

as for valves they are typically plenty big enough in most "sporty" peugeot engines and larger valves alone will not gain much if anything at all, you'd need a few hundred quid spent on porting to suit your camshaft.

valvetrain depends on how wild you want to go with the camshaft, your cam seller or engine builder should be able to advise at what kind of lift or RPM you need to change them.
