TB'd cherry red gti

Hello all, il start with a little introduction. My name is scott and i live near middlesbrough.

This is my cherry red gti which ive owned since May 2007 with 62K on a 1999 'T' plate. Today the mileage is 110k. I was putting loads of miles on it with work but i recently got a job offshore so i decided rather than sell it (which i couldnt part with it anyway), i would turn it into a dedicated track car and use the partners when im home. My plan is to get the car ready for sprints and hillclimbs being the main use and as many tracks day inbetween as possible
.
Basically the car is standard, other than the GMC ATpower throttle bodies on a standard internal engine. The car also has a 4-1 GMC manifold with a full decat stainless magnex. The cars management is ran from a DTA S40 with innovate lamda control also.

The suspension and brakes are standard but have plans to change these very soon. Ive got a full set of billy grp n front and rear suspension with grp n top mounts for the front. This will be getting sorted on my next trip home. Ive also got a group buy running on the sd cup cage so that will be comin soon too.

Here are a few pics taken recently, all comments are welcome!!

Also got hold of some rallye steels with 4 good toyo r888's which i gave a quick rattle can spray

And the complimentary -

Thanks for looking and any comments good or bad (i know there are a few gmc warriors on here)

Scott

What sort of difference have the bodies/management made on a relatively standard engine? Be interesting to hear how a package of bolt-on mods makes a 106/Saxo feel.

Hello mankee, i will get some pics up when im home of the rr graph. The car made 148.8bhp @ the fly on gmc's rollers. Cant quite remember the torque figure, think that was about 119 possibly. Its got a real nice steady flat torque curve from about 3k with a peak about 6k and dropping off about 7k. Thats torque is all off the top of my head as i have forgot most of it ha

I think the tb's are great, simple design - they are becoming more proven now too.

Hi think we've spoke on 106 owners before. If you don't mind me asking, how much was the throttle body setup?

cheers pal.

yeah dan we did speak on there. I cant exactly remember how much the bodies we're but i got them in the group buy for them on the owners club, think they we're about £750. i went for the dta s40 ecu because im planning on alot more work so its better in the long run althought i think the standard ecu could be mapped for these but dont quote that.

now got a safety devices 12 point cup cage on the way and will probably purchase a motordrive fia bucket (because of there build quality and price) along with 6 or 4 point sabelt harness also.

car is currently at the garage having my beam refurbished, powerflex beam mounts fitted and the billy grp n suspension with grp n top mounts also. i decided not to go for grp a' rear bushes as i thought they would be quite harsh.

car had to make the trip out wearing the 888's as i found one of my road tyres had a puncture on late sunday night before i took it early monday morning.

hopefully the car will be back by the weekend being very stiff and sorted to get ton the track!

That'd look dandy with white steels.

Good luck with the speed event car build.

Cheers pal, where abouts you from?

Update -- Car is now back from the garage, had a re-furbed beam fitted with standard bars, powerflex bushes and dropped about 30mm with grp n billy shocks.

The front is now about 35mm down with grpn billys and the grpn top mounts also.

The car felt very nice and tight when i drove home, didnt really have chance to test it out as i had my 888's on and it was pouring with rain and now im back offshore for a few weeks.

With this being done, hopefully will get my new simspon helmet bought and a few tracks days will be happening. Still waiting on the sd cage to arrive, once i get that fitted i can really see how happy i will be with the chassis setup.

been progressing with stripping the interior loom down to bare essentials which is a complete pain but im starting to see the efforts now. just order my glovebox carbon blanking plate from bic so that will tidy the look up a bit.

will be next month now when i get the cage, seats etc fitted - cant wait.

will be looking at persp windows and anything else to lighten the car interior wise, also thinking about cutting out the double skin on the doors??

Here all the new pieces ready to fit
cobra sebring pro

sabelt lightweight 6 points

omp rails

SD cup cage

and some of the car stripped out, interior rear loom stripped down the bare minimal - yet to be rerouted through the wing to tidy it all away. glovebox wiring tided up and carbon cover to hide the rest away. rear brackets for seats removed via the dremmel and are to be tidied up.
also got a new alternator on the way so thats needs to be fiited.

forgot to mention the interior needs a good spray too!

engine will be plans for next year. im prob gonna stay down the N/A route but i do fancy adding a S/C too but then i couldnt compete in competitive classes. if i stay N/A i want to try push about 190. Il be going to larger pistons, BVH etc the usual to make that figure.

Ive also been looking at a stroker for 1800 as i fancy something different to what there is about at the minute
