Common Rust Spots
Hi,
I'm considering a Rallye as a weekend car and have read through the great forum buyers guide. I'm wondering if there are any common spots to check for rust when viewing? For example boot or sills etc? Any advice appreciated! Cheers, Gunzi |

everywhere undeeneath!
inner wings, chassis legs, floor stiffeners/wishbone mounts, sills, inner sills, especially next to the fuel tank, rear wheel arches where they meet the boot floor, plus anywhere hidden by the kit. |

Yes and in the engine bay under the ECU and the fusebox. Also both wheel arches (i.e. Either side) in the boot.
On the whole they are now all showing their age in some form, so there are very few that can claim no rust.

They're a 25+ year old piece of steel that's lived in England... there is no such thing as a 'rust free' example..

Mattxt92 was doing a fairly extensive restoration on a damaged and rotten shell, although thanks to photobucket the thread has lost it's pics.
Doubt it would be cost effective to pay for restoration ....... yet, although if the value increases it may be worth investing. Last edited by jools; 01-08-2017 at 12:01 AM. |

I know it would depend on the quality of the repair and what lengths have been gone to to treat the repaired sections for the future but on the common areas boot/inner wings/sills if done correctly should it they be good for months/years?? Or are you just biding your time until they appear again?

If the rotten metal is all cut out then it should be good for years as long as the metal is suitably protected and treated for all accessible sides.
