First road rally

Was out on the Beaver rally last night for first time driving (dad navigating). Plot and bash and pretty rough whites, not to mention fog, biblical rain and then some tough clues.

The car stood up to all the punishment put in it's direction, only realised that previous owner had slightly bent the sump guard which was rubbing on the engine mount causing some nasty knocking sounds. Couldn't see anything in the fog and mostly ran on dips until it opened up.

Off to figure out where we picked up two fails from (think it was clocking in early as we got really confused early on), they also gave us 18mins for our first test but didn't bother querying as would have made no difference to the results.

Impressed with the tough little rallye. Need a quieter back box as we couldn't hear each other at times!

Sounds like great fun! Been a long time since I've been out, glad you and the car performed well!

Yes, p 'n' b was our first try in this car and it was quite difficult, spent a bit of time at the side of the road figuring out where to go!

Next time out is on the clitheronian in september which is pre-plot, will be doing a mixture of both. Got a few jobs to do before then though.. (engine mounts, straighten sump, flush radiator and decide which tyres to use for a tarmac road rally).

Yokohama A021 are an excellent tyre for road rallying, good all rounder!

Excellent thanks for the recommendation, I have 3 spare s2 steels (4th has a big ding/bend), so will get some ordered shortly along with another wheel.

As Matt says.. AO21's are about the best all rounder you'll get! You'll never go back to normal road tyres once running them! On a really wet and muddy rally I use AO35's! They're banned now though cos they're not E marked! So just stick to the 21's!

Sounds like the AO21's are where it's at then. We used colway road plus on the beaver which seemed to have enough grip, but what do I know, it's the first time I drove the car in an event!

Cheers for the recommendations.
