Are you sure that it's full 1998 engine? As it's got a legendary "2-prong" head on it from the 1999/2000 crossover cars. Which means that it might go pretty well! Get it tested and report back.

How can you spot a 2-pronger? (Stupid question, but worth answering!)

This photo of Amin's is a good demo:

You can see the clearly the two prongs that stick out of the head BUT also that they are solid and haven't been drilled and tapped to take the pipework from later L4 emissions/3-plug ECU cars that have the pump that blows fresh air into exhaust gases to clean up emissions on startup.

Ah, I see, so it's a later revision of head, presumably with better porting etc, but before the crappy emission fiddling came in (presumably with a few more tweaks).

Oh now that's interesting because it certainly feels quicker than my old 16v . Have a rolling road day coming up in January, will be good to know how much it's making.
The ecu is single plug and it was sold to me as a 1998 Vts engine.
Would that explain why it seems to have more grunt mind range? My old 16v needed to be revved a lot higher to get to the power.

After some Gti leathers if anyone knows of any going?

My rev counter hasn't worked intermittently when I had the 1.3 fitted, now doesn't work at all, even after the new loom so will this fix it?
pick the 1 pin on the clock loom plugs, run a small wire to the one that buzzes through from the 16v loom to the engine bay loom plug, connect? Surely easier than swapping clocks and interior loom?

My rev counter suddenly decided to work on the drive home from the Kent 306 Gti-6 & Rallye Kent meet.

Few pics of the meet

Wheels are in matte grey primer, not the final colour

gearbox emptying the oil all over my beautifully wrapped exhaust manifold. Smelled real good! Luckily its only 9.00 from Peugeot Sports and i have had the gearbox off less than two months ago for a new clutch so it will only take a few hours.
Might as well fit my brake pads and discs at the same time.

Annoying thing is my clutch (less than 500miles) will probably need replacing as it got covered in oil and is now slipping due to that. Ah well!

Anyways I have a gti as a run about till I have a day off to put a new clutch and input seal on.

Car is potentially for sale too.

Edit-
Low mileage Vts gearbox and a Brand new clutch kit going on this weekend along with front discs and pads, uprated door speakers,6x9s and a headunit.

Then another 6 months tax and it's for sale.
Pm me with any enquiries.

205 wheels are now in their final colour, glossy grey. Centre cap lions in Renault Sunflower yellow and lego dust caps.
Gave the Pugsport a polish too.

Ignore the duct tape on the rear arch, had to tape it down while it sticks on properly with tiger seal.

So I sold my expensive to run 306 Rallye and bought this back! Why? Because I know it well, did the conversion of suspension refresh bla bla. Anyway Harry put in a 12 point cage, buckets, harnesses and Satchshift.

Also had absolutely no soundproofing or interior. Fair to say it feels pretty light and quicker.

So guess what? I'll put all the heavy stuff back in! Carpet, soundproofing, stereo etc. Battery in the boot and spare tire too to help with balance.

So this is now back with me:-) way cheaper to run than the 306 Rallye I just sold. Nice whip but Damn, they are thirsty.
180 miles on 15 back home in the 106!

Harry took good care of it, made it quicker by ripping the interior out. Loud and fast now!

Spec is the same apart from now no interior apart from Safety Devices 12 point cage
Cobra Monaco bucket seats and harnesses
Satchshift

So the Rev counter stopped working as per usual french car fashion. Then just now worked again. Woo

Then disaster struck.. I usually LOL at other people's stories about bonnets flipping up bla bla.. Then BAM!
FAIL.
new windscreen on the way. Just pissed off about a small dent on the roof!

No major changes planned for now.

I'm in the process of using this awesome soundproofing material under the rooflining and boot area as well as under the seats. Adds about 3kgs so I can live with that.

Carpet is going back in, battery in the boot and i'll get round to finding a spare 1.9 Speedline to pop in the boot with an OMP wheel holder jobby. All to help with balance a bit more.

As for power in quite happy, cams at some point in the future but it's not a priority ad it currently pulls on a mates 200 Cup and a CTR.

It could however benefit from a diff because it now feels a lot lighter and spins the wheels out of corners and the torque steer is a bit full on!

Handling is sublime, Sooo much feel. I know people say this sorta stuff all the time but so far nothing keeps up with it in the twisties, Skip Brown did a sweet job with suspension.
Will let more pics up soon as soon as my Photobucket bandwidth limit the resets.

Now looks pretty mean and bodged with bonnet catches on a mismatched dark metallic green bonnet!

Photobucket is back phew..
I'll upload new pics tomorrow, for now just a snap of the cage.
I might have the bonnet and wheels sprayed gloss black and pop a 205 PTS sticker on the front like I had in my spare bonnet on my old s1.

Pic of new bonnet before the new windscreen

Few snaps from last night still not washed but it looked kinda mean just sitting there. I think it may need a new battery or alternator because it takes a few seconds for light to come on, dials to light up and rev counter to start working when I start the car.
Other than that it behaves and drives faultlessly, smooth and quiet engine on idle, oil is clean, compression is spot on and even and power deliver is very linear and smooth with a nice 'on cam' kick past 5k.

Also fitted an OMP upper strut brace and removed it a day later! It made the car oversteer a bit too much for my liking, and sudden at that. The lower is still on and firm the turn in enough for my liking. I'd still have the upper on it there was full interior or more weight in the back.

Come payday the wheels and roof will be sprayed gloss black.

today I gave the old whip a quick clean and removed the white circles on the door. Won't be doing any events in it, just the odd track day.

Also put an old aux belt to good use to make up some 'light weight' door door handles!

I'm after some lighter wheels so anyone with S2 steels or C5 steels get in touch:-)

The car did the weirdest thing earlier.. Went for a very chilled ten mind drive to a local nature reserve where I jog. I returned 45mins later, key on first click and played some music while I catch my breath. No other cars around so I left the music playing while I sat on a bench and chilled.

Now the battery decharges quickly if I was to play music or leave headlights on for instance. I figured I best not risk a flat battery so I fired her up.

.... Strong smell of petrol and only ran on three cylinders..
It was smoking out the exhaust, blue smoke.

Now I've recently done a compression test and it was perfectly even across all 4 doesn't use oil or water, never overheats and is always warmed up and the engine is cared for, oil comes our as clean as it went in.
So I was sure head gasket was fine.

I turned it off. Swore at it and started it again, back on 4cylinders but still smoking.

I drove it up the road, smoke got less and less, totally clearing after a mile or two.

Got it home, let it cool down then checked coolant, oil, and leaks or anything unusual and reset ecu.
Took it for a proper drive, left it and no smoke on startup few mind later. Also no smoke if I coast it Down a steep hill in gear.

I'm thinking something like one lazy injector due to near flat battery and lazy alternator ? Oil got in there somewhere and make it smoke? Weird shit, really had me worried for a second. This is by far the smoothest, best looked after and eager non cammed 16v engine I've had. Rather it didn't mess about after having had no issues since fitting it last year.

106 = 306 decals, just the ones for red cars have different backgrounds.

Looks good though.

Bit of a weird engine issue, the smoke is a bit odd...

Wow I forgot how Feisty this little car is. Drive home was surprisingly comfortable and uneventful.

It's actually a lot quieter on idle that the 1.3 8v I just sold.
Rev counter didn't work when I picked it up but just yesterday decided to work again.

No real plans other than respray wheels anthracite and relocate battery to the boot.

Afraid not, I sold them with my old s1 16v a couple of years ago. They were my favourite wheels by far and really set the car off.
How it looked last time I saw it.

Started to wash the 106 and up started to drizzle! Typical. Roads were nice and dry this morning so I really fancied a little blast.

New company car from Seat too.

I have been working for Seat for about 4 months in sales, I really enjoy it and there are perks like a new company car every couple of months but the hours are looong.

5ft10ish. Previous owner put those seats in, don't seem particularly high to me and driving position suits me, I like to see the bonnet

My mates Clio has a very low seat , can hardly see over the steering wheel in that thing!

Wheels going on, pic of them fitted tomorrow, let. They look great and the steering feels a little bit lighter and the wheels spin up easier.

Weight difference was impressive.

Now with the C5 wheels on. Nice bit of difference, steering feels lighter and more responsive. And looks the part again.

I got these for a great price from a friend who bought a non runner C5 to break for parts. I have a 5th wheel to mount in the boot soon. Feels and looks like a Rallye again.

Went over to see my mates Clio during the day when one of our friends decided to stop by in his 205.. 405bhp @ 1.6bar. I believe it has a nice feature in the next copy of French Performance.

Needles to say he shot off into the distance while I had a play with the bodied Clio.

No pic of the 205 engine bay, I'll pop one up after the feature.

Went out for a blast last night to have some fun in the Rallye. Dual carriageway onto roundabouts and off down some lanes at night when I shifted fast and my accelerator pedal dropped to the floor..
Pulled over to find my accelerator cable had snapped. And I mean the actual metal cable about an inch about the white clip by my pedal.

Car has polycarb windows, reach in, open up so I didn't fancy leaving it there over night so I ran the cable through the door and ran throttle by hand!
Got home without even stalling once!

New cable on the way

I now own this car looks a bit different now as I will be racing it in the last 3 rounds of the track day trophy. It Will then get a full strip down and rebuild over the winter.
