brilliant work Dave, the Belgians would absolutely love to see this out there, so many times they have seen Garrys car from afar and asked if its a real one.

A company called XLNT Signs in Roscommon pulled out all the stops and did the
graphics late one night on very short notice.

I went with my own twist on the original factory graphics and Im delighted how
it turned out.

So the pressure was on to get this red devil to the most beautiful place in Ireland, Knockalla, Co. Donegal for a 2 day hill climb event. There were a lot of late nights and
even early mornings that week but we made it.

A bit of beach action on Friday afternoon

And down to business Saturday morning.

When I sat into the car to take it off the trailer the brake pedal went straight to the floor

A quick inspection revealed one of the dry break connectors for the calipers had seperated
and I think it had got wrapped up in the strap around the wheel when strapping down the car.

Gillian got a quick lesson on bleeding brakes, the old "Pump" "Hold Down" system and
after a few minutes we were back in action

The first practice run up the hill was the most frightening thing I ever experienced
I'm no stranger to 3,4 & 500bhp road cars but this little circa 220bhp Saxo frightened
the shit out of me, The noise, the revs, twitchy steering, gear after gear after gear it
just wanted to go. Half way up the hill I'm thinking "My 106 is only a toy" and by the
top of the hill I am 100% awake, my face hurting from my ear to ear smile, this thing
is fucking unreal.

Here is an incar of the first timed run up the hill, not my best driving but it does take
getting used to.

Thank you gents

Day 2 brought a lot of rain to the hill and I only had 1 set of tyres for the car so
things were interesting.

After the first run I had a pretty big fuel leek at one of the bulkhead connectors
inside the car so I had to sort that for obvious reason plus this thing runs on ELF 102
costing 200 for 50L

I managed to get it down to a very small weep and then wrapped it with a rag to
keep me going.

I adjusted the rebound on the front struts to get more traction of the line and
just went out to get some mileage & seat time.

After a few runs I was 3rd in class but retired on the second last run due to a
clutch/drive train judder but I was happy with what I had achieved at that stage.

Here is a video from the end of day 2, starting to learn the car at this point.

Enjoy

i'm curious now dave, if this one is such an animal at 220hp, is the maxi much less power?
You obviously have the sequential box etc on both cars so i imagine that both are similarly capable and reasonably similar driving habits?

The 106 is 201bhp and in a small car 20hp will make a difference. The Saxo also revs to
8900rpm and has a 6 speed 'box so the ratios are a lot closer as you can hear in the video.

At the end of the day one car was built in a shed on a farm and the other had unlimited
Money and R&D thrown at it.

What a venue for a hill climb, it looks stunning. Car looks like a proper handful in the wet. You're a brave man putting your foot to the floor given the weeks of effort that went into this. That said, hats off to you for using it as it was designed.
