Hsustyle's Black S1 8v

I'm back in a Rallye and loving it!

I sold my Moonstone Gti after less than a month of ownership and snapped this up and even had some change left.
The Gti was so boring and uninspiring that it had to go.

Some might think I have taken a step back and It's the most underpowered car I've had in quite a while but wow, possibly also the most fun I've had in a long time!
It's so revvy and just a massive amount of fun down a twisty road. Certainly would leave the Gti behind.
Its a lot more rewarding to drive and makes you work the gearbox a lot, keeping in the right powerband and exploring grip levels. It's a car you can be very ballsy in because it gives so much feedback.

It came with..

Standard s1 1.3 8v engine
Original 1.3 Rallye gearbox, in great condition
Goodridge hoses
GE quickshift
Constella uprated gearrods
Nissens Radiator
B4 rear dampers
K&N in the original airbox, sounds great

Factory ABS AND sunroof, no leaks
It's the only s1 Rallye I know of with abs,and it works.

The previous owner was very honest and pointed out all faults..
needed some scratches sorted
Rear lower arm mounts are worn
Engine mounts very wobbly
Roof very faded and a small spot of rust on the back of the sill.

This is what it looked like after the first clean.

I was quick to start making some changes so a Raceland manifold went on and a full set of Peugeotsport GrpA engine mounts. Things now vibrate like mad but the throttle is a lot more snappy and instant and the car is more stable through corners and doesn't lift off quite as much.

The Raceland made it rev a bit more freely with a nice punch in the high revs.

The K&N filter makes a lovely roar in high revs and the exhaust is very raspy with occasional pops and bangs. Can't beat a Pugsport.

I then tcut the roof and went over the rest of the paint with a claybar and some wax. Fair to say it shines up pretty well!

The interior came up nicely after a good clean, carpet is nice and red but seatbelts need a good wash.

Engine bay after a decrease and quick wipe down.

Next up I will fit a lower strut brace and have new Balljoints fitted as well as New wishbone Rear mounts and polybushed middle mounts.

Im also on the lookout of some B6 or B8 dampers and some -30 mm springs to suit. I think that'll be enough for now to make it a fun little toy!

Comments welcome

Ps I don't think i'll be selling this anytime soon.the other night I went for a random country lane blast and had a great time. It's been a while since I last did that!

Thanks Man. I know how I want it to drive so a few mods will make it a lot more fun.
I have a trackday at Brands Hatch next month so it'll have to be lowered a little bit on a firmer set up, better brake pads and other tires. More updates soon.

They are so much fun! My old stripped s1 16v was fast but it was more clinical and easy to drive fast. This is a proper riot! Great fun when you wind that Engine up and so much more involving, plenty of character.

Cheers man. I was going to go today but my Rallye desperately needs new wishbones and better tires. Both on the way now. And the Clio has a huge impact bubble on one of the brand new front tires which is massively annoying! So we will probably go next weekend on a novice day. 76 iirc

I gave the interior a really good scrub, surprised how much filth was deep in the seats! Seatbelts are red again rather than a dirty red.

Engine bay got a little wipe down too. Ignore the wire on the airbox, was a temporary fix to stop the airbox from rattling.

Couple of pics with some a moody backdrop.

The car is still an absolute joy to drive and really puts a smile on my face,, probably more so than my old s1 16v!

It gets plenty of attention and compliment from all ages which is nice.

This thread has inspired me even more to buy a S1 Rallye - I have a bit of a 'thing' for French cars and I need to put my arse in gear and buy a second 'fun' car - what could fit the bill better than one of these!

Hi Dan, You're making a wise choice there! Beware though, you'll keep coming back to them, nothing I've driven quite satisfies that itch. Smiles per miles it's an absolute winner. I currently drive a 2014 Octavia Vrs estate as a company car and i only really use it for commuting and the Rallye comes out at any opportunity.

Where abouts in Kent are you? I could always take you for a drive in my S1 sometime if it's not too far away.

Maybe. I've never had a 16v S2. Saw a stunning Indigo recently.. And now want one.
I have a nice Company car and the S1 doesn't get enough use so I'll either take it off the road or sell it.

"Ps I don't think i'll be selling this anytime soon.the other night I went for a random country lane blast and had a great time. It's been a while since I last did that!"

That didn't last long someone should start renting rallyes out
Any 16v for sale catch your eye?

I actually let my girlfriend's dad borrow it for the evening, no charge this time.
I haven't advertised it yet and still toying with the idea. I miss the lairyness of 16v and all the pops and bangs and eagerness and I've ever owned a S2 Rallye believe it or not!

Nothing really jumps out at me other than the rallye below but that sold.. That was my ideal spec and budget really.
