John's Car Blog

Well where to start, first saw the rallyes about 5 years ago in stock hatch and ever since then i had decided that it was the car i wanted. Manged to get my hands on one in feburay 2003 i think, now if i can remember the car came with about 80,000 miles on it some horrible 15" alloy things, 8 valves and that was about it.

After a little while of owning the car it started to devolpe a habbit of eating my money! porbaly not helped by my habbit of buying things to try on there.

Just a little run down of where the money has gone. I think the first thing was uprated but standard sized disc's and pads all round, after that came a kit to run bigger front discs but standard claippers. Soon after that came the GTI-6 claippers which were very nice oh and then the master cylinder was changed for a 406 23mm one!. Also at some point in there briaded brake lines were fitted. And now finally i'm running wilwood 4 pot dynalite front claippers which touch wood i'm very happy with, although i'm now looking at a bigger set up for the rear.
The suspension wasn't so bad can't think when but the dampers were changed for blisetien ones and springs, then the springs changed again, and recently they changed again!!!

Air filters god dam have had a few of these on there. First was a pipercross which was crap! then came a K+N which lasted a little while but gave way to a viper!! which guess what soon went in the bin to be replaced with the current BMC one which is bloody staying on there!.

There has been god knows how many oil, plug, lead, changes etc somewhere around every 6 months, probalay was bored and wanted something to do.

Many a running problem has popped up aswell not to metion i'm now on gearbox number 4, engine number 2, and i guess all the other usaul stuff that brakes and needs replacing.

The engine changed from 8v to 16v when basically the 8v ecu got fried in some sort of electrical problem and the cheapest thing to do was put a 35,000 mile 16v GTI engine in it, now that was a complete nightmare with the loom and other things which i'm not going to remind myself about.

Oh 2 sets of 4-2-1 manifolds aswell, one 8v and now the 16v one.

All in all have enjoyed spending all my money on the car....um.....

I'll stick some pictures up and when i happens and i remember i stick some up of the bits and pieces and new developments.

well there in didnt take too long about an hour after all the coffee frames went stright in which was nice, used the origanal bolt points for the harness to bolt into but now there's even less reason to have back seats, 1. no seat belts in it anymore, 2. you can't get in the back!!!

quite pleased with them just need a hoover out now.

done this a little while ago as a pass the time idea to develop some how but basically its a bit crude, but it does work feels much more responsive all the time instead of the first 10 minuts till it all got hot , went out the other day in the pissing down rain to see how it coped with the water and yes the front part of the pipe was wet inside but up by the cda box it was bone dry no problem of sucking in water so far, just going to spary some back paint inside the pipe and over the mesh so it dosent show as much

seeing as i'm bored and dying from a bloody cold thought i best put these on here!, just some pics from the snetterton 25th september track day where it rained!! maganed some claen laps and some dirrty cross country ones as well as saying a personal hello to the barrier resulting in some srathcing and a lose wing mirror cover opps

so the only thing getting rerpaired is the wing mirror cover the rest is staying as is, because it happened on the track it has to stay on the car
