Smile Rallye Van Progress Blog

After seeing Matt e's rallye van build i always had a soft spot for these, i kept trying to pretend that i liked the 205 but it wasn't for me i obviously have a 106 fetish

About 3 weeks ago i picked up my s1 van 1527cc! 60mpg and fairly nippy It had been a workhorse but to be honest only has one body inperfection which will be sorted in a couple of months, a few dings in the rear quarter but being white not a major problem.

My plans are to have the s1 bumpers, arches and interior. the back is going to be boarded out and wrapped in black acoustic carpet.

A new set of s2 steelies are on their way and should be on next week.

May cough may 16v it but will be a while yet

To begin with i've started on the interior as i've got to sit it in so though i'd enjoy it as soon as possible.

So far i have fitted an xsi steering wheel (my mis communication but will eventually have a s1 rallye steering wheel) and the red carpet.

I have red seat belts and the rallye door cards ready to be fitted next week I'm collecting a mint set of s1 seats next week.

Drying after a jet wash!

Will keep this updated

He was on here a while back selling some parts but he said he sold the van to someone who wrote it off

Should be great when it's done, I too thought the other one was rather cool

Would it be worth looking into diseasel tuning options ?
Loadsa torque cannot be a bad thing.

Matt E had an accident in his van and never really got round to fixing it. In the end it went for spares. It wasnt actually Matt E that made it though, it was jon, who then sold it to Matt E.

You can tune diesels, but really only ones with turbos.

Love the project Bonnie, its a great idea The XSi wheel is identical in size and shape to a rallye wheel, but just has a more shiny rim and no centre badge.

awww gutted about matt breaking the van for parts. i loved that car

i owned it for over a year inbetween jon and matt. when i bought it from jon it had the rallye 1.3 8v and running gear fitted, externally it was still works van stealth. throughout my ownership i cleaned it up and fitted the rallye bumpers and arches, carpeted inside the rear, fitted the peugeot sport comp mo's, and the alarm. i sold it to matt who stripped the car back to it's bare bones, and rebuilt it to what i presume was the spec with all those parts he's breaking in his for sale thread from a couple of months ago? i think matt also had jon fit a 1.6 8v for him. it's a shame there doesn't seem to be any photos of the car after matt finished it completely.

when i bought it:

when i'd finished it:

DOOR CARD DISASTER MOD

Well yesterday i spent a little time with Merv changing over the door cards which unfortunately went boobs up!

Firstly i changed the passenger side one which was o.k. but not perfect to my taste as the full door cards needed an extra hole near the door pin but i could sort that, please see pictures below..................

Then the drivers side, the annoying factory didn't entirely spray the inside of that door so i'm now just going to replace the doors as one has a few bumps in them anyway and mess underneath the bump strips

Annoying hole

Annoying lack of paint:-

As it stands

Then a ray of sunshine appeared yesterday to say my steelies should be with me soon

Sorry about the poor quality mobile pictures

Spray can, masking tape and some newspaper and youll negate the need for a new door Could get fancy and do a bit of p38 on the rogue hole too if you liked

PS youll notice your door pins are extra long. The rallye pins are slightly shorter

could just go to halfords and get some plastic bungs to put in there or use the holes as mounting points for led's for an alarm?

That's a good idea actually, could have pretend alarm. I never even lock the van, i've had so many cars broken into that i don't keep anything in there and leave the doors open to save any damage lol

So far so good! I used to have an Aztec 1.5D, started first time everytime and went on for ever!

Are the vans bianca white or just a sort of "appliance" white?

Well i've been trying to work that one out, i'm hoping that it's bianca, i can see the last two letters of the paint code which are WP and after a conversation with Mark he seems to think that it is likely to be Bianca white. However Juz has also had converstation with me to say that the rallye kit didn't quite match so he had it sprayed almost alpine white, so lets say i have everything crossed
