bonnet was 110.
if your quick i think sandy has 3 more, but it might be worth waiting untill shillaber do a new batch as there is a slight imperfection in the mould. (im just going to cover with a sticker)

ive never seen a fibreglass boot but anything can be made with enough 's!
ooh, just remembed that jon ambler was looking into getting a few fibreglass front and rear ends made so it might be worth contacting him. have a search, i think the post should be in the group buy section a few months back.

shillaber dont currently have a website i dont think.

i still have the old wheels, i will finish the tyres off on track then sell them.
they are a bit curbed and marked but im sure a bit of time with polish would bring them up alot better.
or a full refurb.

edit- a search on google uncovered this tel no. it might not be current still

day off today so ive been busy preparing the cage.
i bought loads of spray can from an internet company which ended up costing about 2.50 per can. I got 6x Primers and 18x white gloss (i know it too many whites but i figured i could use left overs for spraying steels ect.)

Afther 4 cans of primer giving 2 good layers its looking like this.

note the dog trying to get high on the fumes

After the first layer i had a few droplets, so i sanded them down and the second coat has covered them (although i need to now sand down 2 bits from the second layer!) so its almost done.

Stay tuned for it turning white

Looking good leo, what cage is that? Nice to see good prep work too!

After collecting your bonnet up from SRD the other week I was so suprised at how light it was! Think Shillaber had about 2 left from the batch yours was taken from if anyone is interested but I expect they've probably sold, more will be made though as they seem v popular!

I like the idea of spraying mine matt black like Mark's, looked badass!

Also Leo do you have a link to the bonnet pins you've bought, cheers

james, its an omp cage from mark. it has door bars aswell but they need welding in once the cage is fitted.
Yeah the bonnet is quite a bit lighter than the standard one but its a shame that the mould is really quite bad. I might get another when the next batch is produced if its better.
Yeah im also considering going black, with black bonnet, sunstrip and spray the steels black aswell, but it might look shit in reality!
ive done a photoshop, ill try and find it and post it up.
Bonnet pins were both from ebay. They are both made by Grayston (or Gray-something)
But after trying again tonight to try and get the locking pins working (without sucess) i think im just going to use 2 sets of standard pins.

And yes, good prep work is always worth it!

edit: found the pic

omp steering wheel & hub, roll cage padding and another set of bonnet pins ordered today.
After trying and failing again to make the locking pins work correctly, ive decided to just get another set of normal bonnet pins.

Totalling up bits ive bought for the rallye, its around 1300!

and i still need to get:
brakes or the caliper upgrade
upper and lower braces
16v when the 8v dies

So i reckon i will have my ideal track car for just over 3k (inc buying the rallye)

Leo mate, you might want to hold off painting the cage until your door bars are welded on and the cage has been put in and fitted. You can then unbolt it all and paint it before putting it in for good. The welding will burn your paint and putting the cage in the first time is an absolute complete nightmare - I know, I put mine in last night - and you'll scratch your paintwork! I suppose you've got lots of spare paint though

haha, yeah i think i should have just enough paint
it took 5 cans of primer for the whole cage including door bars, so i reckon ill use 8-10 cans of the white to get a good few layers on (or should i just do one layer to save weight)

Matt are you fitting yours yourself?
I was going to but have decided its too big'a job for me to do so i was going to pay&help someone to fit it. Would you consider helping fit mine?(for cash) (pm me if your interested)

right, quite a bits changed now and shes turned into a right slag

cage and harnesses are in, but im holding off putting the buckets in untill ive sprayed up the inside in my week off.
after driving a week without sunvisors i decided i had to do something. so, i fitted a sunstrip today. not the neatest of jobs but for 3 i cant complain!
also this is the first pic of the rallye with no rear wiper, it looks a lot better , but i really miss the wiper. (its not going back on tho!)
steering wheel fitted this week and all roll cage padding is now in, but i need about 1 more length
also note my pug badge i made out of a pug sport sticker i had. it looks quite good but will probably be replaced by the one dunc has sent me once ive sprayed the bonnet

anyway, to the pics!

I like your thinking baz, ill try a photoshop

a few more stickers arrived today, so in the breaks of rain they were applied.
just small touches but adding to the 'rally car' look.
the one on the boot is a castle combe version of the nurburg ones.

and a close up of the sunstrip

well, i finally have a few things to update!

at long last i have one of the buckets fitted, i would have fitted both but i ran out of bolts.
it was alot easier than i was expecting (thanks paul) and only took about 10 mins
I have a slight problem as the sidemounts that came with the seats have a stupid angle to them so didnt sit flat but ive sort of got around it.
I have also started to paint the cage, (only the rear is done so far) with brush on hammerite, which i will then spray all over with cans in a few weeks.
i should be going back to see the guy that fitted my cage next week, and we will weld on more brackets to the pillars ect, fit my new brake set-up and do a few other small bits.

these are also the first few pics where you can actually see my push start panel with 2 accesory switches. it fills the gap where the stereo was nicely, and the push start always impresses people

also fitted today, is my avanti map light, took 20mins and is now a replacement for the interior light that had to come out when the cage was fitted. (ill get a pic in a min)

to the pics!

and here is part of the new brake set up.
206 gti calipers, brembo oe discs (18 each! bargain!) and in the post, mintex 'extreme' pads (more than half the price of the m1144's i was going to get so they might be shit, but ill give them a go and see how they do on track), and some goodridge ss hoses.

yeah its a bloody nightmare in the winter!
with no rear wiper and with my rear window heating packing up, its always misted and covered in shit, its freezing all the time.
add to that the front windscreen misting up, but being strapped in the harness you cant reach forward to wipe it!

but id still much rather have it stripped

finally got the second bucket in today!
took alot longer than the first for some reason but its in!
just need to spend some time removing each bolt, one at a time to cut them down.they are quite long so a few grams to be saved
pics tomorrow.

the car has started to play up a little bit, almost stalling and not such a smooth idle.
any obvious ideas? (i have a feeling it might have something to do with the throttle body that was bodge repaired)

had the brakes fitted on thursday, and what a difference!
they pretty much fitted right on (big thanks to matt!), the only things needed were different caliper bolts.
while i was there mr satchell also took apart my rear drums and machined them a bit, which has also made a big difference, especially to the handbrake.
pedal movement is also alot less, and we'll see how well they perform on monday!

we also welded in some mounts from the pillar behind the door to the cage legs. colin then drilled holes in the mounts bic stylee (pics will explain but they look awesome!)
im going to have to go back again so we can weld the same bits on, on the front legs to the windscreen pillars but that might need the windscreen removed to weld it

must get new pics tomorrow if its still light when i get back

there was also lots of throttle body talk, and im 100% persuaded!
get those prices sorted sandy and we can start playing

Well, once again, another track day, and not a single fault
A great day out at Haynes with AGES on track on Monday and the tyres were the only things that need replacing
The car really does feel alot more steady with the cage in, with a lot less body roll.
The brakes were alot better and after some driving lessons from Sandy, ive started playing with lift off oversteer

The main thing to show up on the trackday was the sloppy gearstick, so this-morning i ordered the compbrake quickshift off ebay. I had the GE one in my last rallye so it will be good to see how they compare.

Not many pics as they all came out blurred but heres a few showing the filthy rallye with both buckets in.

fitted my quickshift today. took ages as the nylon ball thing took ages to remove, but after a quick test drive it seems alot firmer.

need to get my front suspension inserts replaced soon as the passenger side is f*cked, and at the same time get them to fit my nice ultrasonicaly cleaned injectors and give it a general service.

Big News found out yesterday, my S1 is Import Number 2!
The second ever registered rallye in the uk! Making it possibly the earliest rallye still on the road

well a busy afternoon today.
I swapped over all the wheels, putting the ones that were on front onto the rear and the rears to the fronts. And while i was at it i finally remembered to put the centre caps back on
A few minor adjustments to the quickshift and after a longer drive, although it has improved alot, i found the Griffiths engineering one on my last rallye gave a shorter and firmer shift.
Also played around with the gear knob as since i took it off it hasnt gone off again but its still loose so i need to rethink how to make it fit snug again.

Noticed my exhaust had fallen off one of the hangers this morning so i had to get that back in, which i then cabled tied on and the exhaust is now sitting better than before, perfectly straight!
It still needs a wash and hoover but i need a decent days weather

Anyway, PICS!

Here's the first pics of the welded on plates, proper SLAG

and the quickshift

and the new wheel combo with centre caps!

a small update.
after finding out my front suspension needed a few bits replacing ive decided to go the whole hog, and today ordered the bilstein sprintline kit and some eibach springs
it came to a fair sum but hopefully will be fully worth it.
Will hopefully be fitted before a gymkhana with Exeter Motor Club on the 7th Jan!
other bits i have waiting to be fitted are some ultrasonicaly cleaned injectors and some braided brake hoses. Sandy's going to be busy

also fitted my new harnesses, some Sparco 4 point, 3".
still need to paint the rest of the cage and spray the whole inside, but i have a week off before xmas so that should keep me busy.

I had some random 'chav' come and chat to me the other day and he was loving it there is hope for them yet!
and yes, i know she needs a wash
