Wow, after a marathon day and a half the rallye has undergone a major refresh!

10am Tuesday i arrive at sandy motorsport hq and we get right to work doing a quick oil change before we get really stuck in. Next up the front is jacked up and sandy gets to work removing the shagged dampers and springs whilst i attempt to swap the fuel rail with my nicely 'ultrasonicly' cleaned injectors. Halfway through this, a hungover James arrives and a well called for sausage and egg bagette is eaten before getting stuck back into the work.
Sandy soon offers back the strut with the nice and shiny billies/eibachs fitted and then gets onto the other side while James fits the braided hoses and i still fanny around with the injectors.
The front is finished soon enough and James buggers off.
Another break later and we get to work on the rear, 3 hours later after much swearing (all from sandy) 'we' have removed the exhaust and dropped the rear axle to get a better hammer swing on the torsion bars. A quick visit from Neil A and the torsion bars finally give up and pop out!
Its now 7pm and we realise that theres no way im going to be getting home that night so we call it a night, order an indian and catch a few hours sleep (sandys sofa comes highly reccomended!)
9.30ish am today and we get back to work. Soon enough the torsion bars are back on in their new lowered position, the new rear dampers are on and the rear braided hoses are fitted. Wheels back on, a quick test drive and i start to head off home.

Halfway back, near okehampton, driving along doing 70mph and one of my front locking bonnet pins decides to give up and snaps off A quick hunt around the car looking for something to tie it down and i spot my spare wheel ratchet strap! I proceed to limp home and here is the result after the hectic 2 days

Just need to get a new set of bonnet pins now, how bloody typical that i sold 2 sets last week!

I can highly reccomend getting your injectors cleaned by Simtek and once i get the tracking sorted and test them on track im sure the billies and eibachs will also perform outstandingly, but even with dodgy tracking and being completly new to the set up i can feel alot more grip, and its flat as anything through the twisties.
Im very happy with the new ride height and its exactly what i wanted after seeing James' xsi months ago. It looks like a toy car

shit pics but it was getting dark, ill get some nice pics at the weekend.

I was certainly an epic! The torsion bars were the most seized I've known, but everything else pretty much fell off. I was speaking to Colin yesterday and we're going to make some bar extraction tools, which should make ones like that easier. I feel like i've got bigger shoulders now!
I'm very pleased with the way it turned out though and it's a real pity about your bonnet. I've got a spare set of normal pins I don't need as it happens. Cameron loved the noise your car made as you left btw!

Ride height looks spot on Leo. Low but not too low and the back is nicely in proportion.

Big thanks to Sandy for the sausgae and egg baguette, life saver! And for the quick lesson in why Billies are so good!

yeah the bonnet put a bad ending on the work achieved but at least it didnt crack or anything

Yeah i have learnt so much in the days ive been down with sandy and colin and i really do enjoy working on the rallye.

yeah the ride height is just about perfect, i wouldnt want it any lower and it looks alot better than it did

sandy, i had the tracking done today (parallel) and it has removed that slight hesitation in the steering. cant wait to try it out on my favourite roads and on the track. another haynes must be due in the new year

The rally slag look is a good one, im not keen on the ride hide, dont think it suits the rest of the car at all. Also leave the center caps off, generally 106 rally cars dont have them so they dont get in the way incase they need to change a wheel quickly. Also get a couple of spot lights on the front, would look awesome!

the rallye is being prepped purely for the track hence the lower ride height. i might try and do a few 12 cars in it, but being lower now it might have a few problems.
spotlights would be too much weight to carry around all the time, but if i start doing a few night rallys i might look into getting a set.

ive done bugger all recently, not had the time or money:

finally got both the 405 spray bars on and working
replaced the leaking rear drivers window seal (20!)
bought and fitted some new bonnet pins after the locking ones broke (im now using 4 non locking pins, please dont steal my bonnet)
removed my start button panel (too heavy) and replaced with some carbon fibre

and ive ordered a stick on numberplate for the bonnet, and finally decided that im tb'ing the 1.3 rather than 16v

just noticed ive still not added any new pics. ill try and get some at the weekend.

yeah, its the fact theres not many tb'd 1.3's and seeing my engine has had a rebuild it should be good for a while yet. just need to find the money for it im out of money left from the starlet (which means the rallye has cost about 3k so far!) so i need to save up for stuff now (or sell stuff, or put it on the card)

still not really done much recently.
Got a new gear knob from a scrappy as the white omp wasnt staying on tight enough, have got a stick on plate for the bonnet but will wait till after my mot next month to fit (and remove other and drill some nice holes)

Tb manifold is in the making process whilst i attempt to save to pay for it and the jenveys

Nice little slag you've got there, just wondered how you secured the bonnet down with the bonnet pins, do you have a plate underneath the bonnet you've attatched them to? Any pics would be great.
Cheers, James.

shit, totally forgot about the bonnet pic. pm me if your still after it.

small bit of progress now,

today ordered some grp a engine mounts (skip browns), a carbon/kevlar sheet (ebay), picked up 8 new track wheels/tires on saturday (mr mayne) and booked her in for an mot on thursday.
hopefully she will sail through, the only failure should be the pugsport, but ill put the standard one in the boot and tell them to swap them over if it fails. cant be arsed to get under the car in this crappy weather!
still have the droplinks waiting to go on and the passenger seat has come loose somehow so i need to look into that

heres a quick pic of all my spares, quite a selection now (12)

right, it failed the mot today but only for the exhaust and a missing droplink (didnt think it would fail for that,i had one ready to go on but didnt think it would fail for not having it)

off to sandys tomorrow to fit the grp a mounts and the droplink, and attempt to get the original exhaust back on

well, a little bit to update

she passed the mot fine, just a few small things needed to be done.

since then, i went to the combe action day and did a quick session in the rallye, she performed great on the day (although way to slow!) but after inspection the following day, the head gasket was on its way out.
oh dear

now id always thought that when the engine went i would 16v it as its the cheap and easy option, but with wanting to do something a bit different its staying 8v but having a bit of work.
the final spec is not going to be released but lets just say it will be a bit special and heres a package that arrived recently

i also recently painted the cage so heres a few recent pics

the rallye is now away having the engine done but i will update with a few pics when i get it back towards the end of may
