Danny-Boys Cherry Red S1 Rallye Project

Hi guys

I am new too the rallye forum and i thought i would make a thread about my S1 rallye project that i bought from a mate at work who got two S1 rallyes for 500 quid, a red one and a black one he was going to scrap the red one so i had to put a stop to that and bought it off him for 100 and im glad i did because i didnt really know that they were so rare

This is what i was left with after spending 100!!!

I had to arrange a date for collection and i couldnt get hold of a trailer so the only other option was to tow it back 17 miles acroos the back lanes with my peugeot 206 hdi gti .
I made it back with out gettin pulled over so i was happy At first i didnt really get much done as it wasnt at my house and i was going on holiday in a couple of weeks!!

This is how it sat while i was on holiday

Once i was back work began taking the old engine block out, it was only the block, gearbox and shafts when i got it as the previous owner had removed the head.

As you can see the engine that was in the car before had seen better days!! so then i was on the hunt for another engine. I looked everywhere for ages and then come across one on ebay in oxford for 200 which came out of another red s1 rallye.

So i took a half day from work and travelling up to collect it. While i was there i got a standard airbox, fuel filler cap, and front passenger red seatbelt. i was going too get a drivers door as well but it was bad enough trying to get the whole engine in the back of my 206 so it wouldnt fit!!

Once i got the engine back i had get too work as you can tell by photos theres not much room in the garage so it was a struggle!

But i got there eventually i fitted the engine wiring loom while it was out of the car and then dropped it in the car onto the engine mount and rested the otherside on sum blocks whilst i checked what the clutch and flywheel were like.

When that was all checked i put the gearbox in which was a bit of a pain trying to keep the release bearing on the clutch fork! then when i had fitted the gearbox that was the difficult bit done. filled the gearbox with approx 2 litres of oil.

Fitted the drive shafts and put the rest of the front of the car back together!!

once all that stuff was done i moved on to refurbing the wheels at first i looked into getting new ones but i thought why bother i may aswell give it a go myself and im glad i did because they have came out preety good!! well they will do until i can get my hands on some speedlines!!

I then sprayed the centre caps which i thought really finished off the wheels.

Before

After

Then the time had come to get it all together and take it in to work to see what it needed to get it threw the MOT

once it was at my work we had a good look at it and the was no rust in sight underneath which i was surprised. just a few bits on the wings which im replacing this weekend!

so will upload more once the work is done!!

Good save on this car. All the bits you need will come up eventually if you have enough patience...

The rallye is back home now with bad news it needs welding done to it! On the passenger side rear on the inner seal! So need to get that sorted and then get the flat spot fixed!?!?
