Finally getting round to sorting the car, booked in for a new windscreen tomorrow then roof should be getting sorted next week so she shouldn't be looking so sad then! Having trouble sourcing a bonnet replacement though, ideally a steel one would keep the costs down but I'm thinking a GRP or CF one would keep the weight down too.

Decisions... decisions! lol I would never think about cutting the roof if it was in good nick, but now that it needs a bit of TLC I think it would be the right time to fit one.

I don't really want to spend too much on the vent so a carbon fibre one is out. I have seen these GRP ones though that aren't too bad.

The old school impreza one is identical to the mini van roof vent! lol but looks pretty cool. Not sure who can supply the clio cup one tbh, although I'm sure that would be well out of my budget!

If you are planning on any competition just make sure the regs don't stipulate a standard silhouette!

I've been thinking about a roof vent. Even with the pop outs open, the windows cracked and the fan on full I was cooking! I reckon this one is the best bang for your buck.

It is a decent product Pete, just a little too expensive though. Think this one is pretty much exactly the same as the ones TRS used to supply. Although I wouldn't cut your roof if I was you! I have an excuse! lol ;o)

Think this is the same one but for a little cheaper:

Little update from today. After having the new windscreen fitted and fitting the replacement bonnet I thought i'd replace the scuttle plastics with others I had and gave the scuttle a spray at the same time. Looks a lot better than it did.

I was going to order my coilover conversion set from Rally Design at some point this week along with the springs.

I want to get the suspension set-up just right. I'm going to be using PTS tarmac inserts with them along with 300lb springs. Can anyone advise spring size? I was thinking 8", will I need helpers with these?

For a good tarmac set-up what ride height would be best? how many inches from sill to ground back and front, any ideas?

Mine are 7" I think dude. Details in my blog. My coilovers are right at the bottom of their travel so the car could easily be about 30-40mm higher.

Believe it on not buddy it's steel! To be fair though I think an S2 bonnet has a bit more of a curve so perhaps an S1 is slightly easier. Think the dremmel makes easy work of it though!

Picked up a set of Colway Intermediates today. Also went down to see Dan (vtr on wye) to pick up a new coilover conversion kit and to see his car - and what a car it is!!! he's really gone to town on it and definitely convinced me to stick with the 8v!

Going to pick up a dog gear kit on Monday. I'm really looking forward to getting the box built up with these + the gripper LSD should completely transform the car!

First job

When I bought it I noticed it needed the strengthening panel under the front wheel arch replacing due to a little rot. So I ordered a panel from 106 parts and got on with fitting it.

[/QUOTE]

you wouldn't have pictures of the panel under the floor? need an idea on how much the panel fills up the space if you get me?

I've been looking for a set of 106 gti calipers for the front, however on closer inspection after being told they looked like standard S1 calipers they look like gti ones to me! I appreciate the image isn't the best but can anyone confirm for definite that they are indeed 106 gti ones?

I believe the S1 front calipers are alloy and the gti are cast steel?

Yep, they are S2 Rallye/106 GTi/Saxo Furio/VTR/VTS ATE calipers. Also found on 306 TDs, ZXs and all sorts. And some very late S1s. Heavy compared to alloy AX/S1 calipers though.

Cheers for confirming that guys, I had a feeling that they might have been! They are a little heavier but I'll have to go on a diet to compensate then! lol

+ they are supposed to be a bit better than standard so will suit what I have planned for it! Although I have been offered a set of 206gti 266mm ones which I believe fit under 14"? But these should do the trick for now, seems to stop on it's nose anyway!

If you're going to keep the boat anchors you might as well get 266mm boat anchors

Just purchased an S2 Rallye disc beam too, so I'll get that fitted in the next month along with my new braided lines and hydraulic handbrake.

I think they should make a hell of a difference to it - coupled with a new set-up of itb's, 645, dta and a nice head - should be a wolf in sheeps clothing!

Another little purchase - a set of Mintex 1177's.

should provide a little more stopping power!

I bought a car cover the other day too, sadly the project is going to be put on hold for a few weeks due to other commitments. However I will be updating with new purchases as the spending will no doubt continue!!!
