106 Gti OBD port location

Im currently building a 106 Gti track car and bought the car partially built to what i would call a high standard, i was told by the seller that the wiring loom had all the unnecessary wiring professionally removed by a Peugeot specialist (electric windows, airbag, interior light, rear wiper etc) and in my opinion seems to be a good job.

I have relocated the under bonnet fuse boxes behind the glove box, so last night whilst tidying the loom up i noticed that i can't seem to locate a OBD port. I initially thought that it would be in or around the cabin fuse box.....how wrong was i.

I have been trawling this forum for a few nights now but to no avail, any assistance would be much appreciated.

The car is a 1998 106 Gti 16v

it should be near the steering column somewhere IIRC, EU regs stated it had to be within reach of the drivers seat.

Great, thanks for the info. I assume its not an OBD II as i know what they look like, would it look like a regular wiring loom plug (possibly why i couldn't recognise it)

it is dl16 type plug like OBD2, however its is not obd2 protocol as it wasn't mandatory till 2002.
