What do you want from the South West region?

I know it's been a bit quiet in here recently what with me having the 306 and work blocking the forum for me, but I'm back now and wanting to get some life in the region.

We had some great meets when I first joined up and the SW section on 106oc is the busiest going, on here it seems dead though.

So, why is no-one doing anything? What do you want from the region? Are you interested in meets?

Any feedback is welcome, I just hope this can get back to the busy region it once was.

Meets etc would be good but know one ever turns up, tbh now i don't even have a rallye i probably wouldn't. This area is a bit dead! no one seems to care about meets anymore or are to busy (which is fair enough). I think there has been one in the time i've been on this forum (now two years). I'm not likely to renew my membership on this forum as of the next few days it runs out and im moving away from rallyes. The majority of people i have met from the forum are genuine, good people but the forum has died for me and i have no need to waste 20 on something i just glance over whilst im at work.

I think the main problem is it is very spread out in this area, from me to sandy is about 3 and a half hours so organising a meet is never easy as it would most likely take up the best part of a day for most people. next thing is there doesn't appear to be many new members. Active members are a bit thin from the south west.

If a meet is within a hour of me i will try my best to make it but atm i work a fair bit and have a lot of other stuff going on

James, gotta give it to you for sticking with it! Best of luck mate

dont shoot me for saying this, i joined the forum/club for the huge expanse of knowledge and the fact that there are often the spares that i need for sale on here to keep my little pug on the road.
currently the pug just sits there doing nothing (done 40miles since june?) I would come to meets but they always seem to coincide with me being on call for work and having just brought a house i cant afford to turn away the money.

ditto oram i just dont get the time either, i joined because i was doing a 16v pugbuild and a good friend of mine knew colin satchell and recomended i try this forum to contact him. im glad i did this is one of the best and friendly car forums ive been on (most of them tend to be on the clicky side) theres good knowledge on here too.
the only people ive met so far is dean (cyb3r) and leo (vossy) who both seem like good lads.
my rallye done 30 miles this year, plus im a old codger these days.
i should make more of a effort really.

For me if a meet is any more than an hours drive away I can't be bothered. I know its a negative attitude to have and if everyone were the same no one would turn up, as the area is so long and spread out. But that's just the way it is for me

Plus I've lost interest in the whole club and events thing, I've even taken my RR stickers off and I don't think I'll renew my membership. I still enjoy driving and owning my car though.

I love it!! You lot have got the winter blues bad haven't you!!!

I think we can all appreciate the fact that distance is a huge factor, and lets also not forget the economic climate in the country, the cost of fuel, and the general uncertainty about the future...

People are obviously then less likely to make an effort.
If you don't put in, you don't get out. It's the same with everything in life - groups where members contribute all benefit from everyone getting involved. Areas where it relies on the efforts of one (or two) people that people either then ignore or freeload just die out.

Maybe the South West should hang up it's coat for now if there is seriously this level of non-commitment. It's a shame but these things happen, just keep the club in mind. It doesn't take much to turn around so come the spring why not organise a spring meet somewhere fairly central in the region? (or near an nice pub, good road etc).

The Rallye Register is more than just a forum. It's a club, and a club relies upon active participation of all members so thanks all for your continued support, sorry to hear some are leaving us - but most of all thanks to James for trying to inject some energy into the region.

Keep enjoying those Pugs lads!

I do find it mildly ironic that the SW has a god-like engine builder specialising in Pugs on their doorstep and this membership problem

I'm up for attending meets, the problem I normally have is time.

Weekend are obviously better for most people, me included but working full time and having too many hobbies can sometimes make it difficult.

I guess the only thing that can be done is come up with a date a month or more in advance, let everyone know and see what happens.

The 106OC guys seem to be better with meets, but then there are a lot more 106 owners than Rallye owners so I guess it makes sense.

Also age come in to it, it seems the older I get the less time I time seem to have because of other commitments.

James I guess you could try organising a 106OC and RR meet at the same time and hopefully get a better turn out.

I like meeting people and being made jealous by there cars!

If there was a meet in Plymouth and good amount set on going I'd be in there like swimwear. But for umpteen reasons it never happens. The way forward for this region is to team up with 106 OC. But then having said that I wouldn't drive an hour to park up with some 1.1s with an induction kit and halfords hub caps.

James, in all honesty this region is dead, I wouldn't waste your time organising meets as you'll only be disappointed. Stick to the OC for this sort of thing, it obviously works with them

I can see everyone's points here, it is difficult when even with me being fairly central in the region, members like James and Sandy are still about 3 hours away! As mentioned in the RL's section on here, a lot of our regulars who were around here (Ross Davis, Rich Coleman, Jase, even Bonnie now) have moved on, so our current members are more spread out.

I think Rich's suggestion is the best, and what I was kind of going to go along with anyway. I'll keep organising the meets for 106OC for now and inviting RR to attend. The next one is going to be an RR day (Gloskris has already posted this on here in the regional section), so a more performance based event really. I might think about something Dartmoor/Plymouth based if there would be any interest from the more southern members.

One thing though, James, I'm trying to get away from the stereotype that all 106OC members are chavs with 1.1s like you say. Yeah, there's a few on the forum, but the only ones that turn up to meets have tasteful cars, have a look in the photos I took of the last meet. They're all a good bunch to chat to anyway, regardless of their cars, Rich will back me up on that

I haven't quite moved on yet I sold my rallye for a family car (perhaps a bit too soon) and then this week i lost my little bun in the oven

I admit i've been awful at attending meets this year. Maybe i can make up for it next year. Hopefully i can compromise and have a 306 rallye as a family car and still attend some meets

Days are getting tight for me now, and I may not have the Rallye running but I'd certainly do my best to get along.

Sorry to hear about that Bonnie

For the next few weeks up to Christmas I'm fairly busy, plus I need to find a couple of weekends to fix the black one at the moment

I understand that the rolling road day at Tewkesbury is a bit far out of the way for most in the region (it's 2 hours for me!), but after that's out of the way, I'll try and get something more central sorted again.
