Exhaust heat shields refurbishment

The exhaust heat shields under my S1 rallye are a bit rusty and can do with a clean up. Does anyone have ideas how to refurbish them. Is sand blasting any good idea, or would it just blast through the shields?
I think they are not available from the dealer any more.

I had mine aqua blasted and then refinished them in VHT silver paint, not 100% as they look from the factory but better than 20 years worth of road grime / corrosion.
