Ian, I don't mean to scare you, but check that you've got the cams the right way round as you mention that you had to modify the head casting. Pete had this issue when someone else built his engine. And put the head gasket on the wrong way round as well.

See this thread:

Thanks for pointing that out!!! I have seen that thread.
The cams have inlet and exhaust etched into them and I spoke to QEP who said there was a small number of cams which touch. I have double and triple checked though, so fingers crossed!!!

Loom now fitted to engine (with ALL connections fixed/repaired - Pete)

Bought some GTi fuel hoses and top coolant hose, so its ready to go in!

Still thinking about a Quaife. Would be rude not to!!!

And theres a bit of rust which will need attention when the engine is out!
Also want to relocate the relay box and battery inside the car at the same time, so won't be 16v'd for a while yet! Probably August!!!

Getting there dude!

There was a thread a while about a chap who couldn't get his car to start with a set of 708s, turned out they were etched the wrong way round. Might be worth double checking the lift and so on before fitting them. That's exactly where mine (standard cams) hit and they were the wrong way round.

Put the 8v on the rollers today. 104.8 HP with 94.4 ftlb torque.

16v engine is going in this week. So I'll have it on the rollers again soon.

I put the engine in today. Started first time (after cranking the engine over until the oil light went out)...

But it failed to restart after turning it off. After a few phone calls to Pete and some searching on the forum, it looks like the ECU has locked itself.

So it looks like a phonecall to Bluehawk is in order on Monday. More

No. I didn't realise and wasn't told when I bought the engine. I was only told that the ECU was unlocked, so I thought that was it. Nevermind. It's a learning process.

I don't have access to the original 16v ECU transponder, etc.

So once the ECU is unlocked by Bluehawk, will it remain unlocked or do I need to remove the Rallye's transponder still?

Update : Car is now running! Took it for a quick drive and all seems ok. Still running on a standard ECU will have it flashed/remapped soon. Only slight issue is the exhaust is very close to the gearlinkage, etc where the manifold meets the pugsport system and the exhaust seems louder now too. Didn't go for a Quaife but its something I might do in the future.

Anyway... a couple of pics with my M3...

Rollcage next!!!

New set of Conti rubber 185/55/14 on all 4 corners = 300

New washer pump = 30

Welded in a Jetex silencer from Demon Tweeks in place of the Pugsport resonator centre section. This has made it alot quiter on the motorway but still noisy on idle and low speeds.

Did an oil change when the new engine reached 1,500m. Now done about 2,200 of grinning from ear to ear!!! Need to get her on the dyno asap. It is fast.

Was on the dyno tonight... 136bhp with 117ft lb. Fairly happy with that. Fueling was ok so no need for a remap. I'll try and scan the graphs in soon.

Right... wheres that SD cage???

Sunstrip from Halfords now fitted before the cage comes!

Thanks!!!

I've had it mapped now with 3% more fuel and 2 degrees ignition.
Has made a slight improvment on the road and will find out for sure on Sat at the rolling road day.

Stalling problem never reappeared. Possibly due to the remap, not sure!

Couple of new pics. Cage is going in...

Unwrapping it took ages!!! But there was no damage to it, so fair play to them.

Should have the plates welded in soon, then paint the interior.

Cage now in!!! Painted the interior. Really love the cage. Still need to drill the holes for the door bars and fit the grip tape in the footwells.

Washed, clayed and waxed...

CF door card trims should be arriving soon. Ordered the 106 track car kit from Streamline carbon.

Time to book some track time and the ring!

Yeah drove it with it all bolted in the other day. It felt nice and tight! Makes the car feel quicker and more responsive. Love it!!!

Door cards should be arriving tomorrow and some padding for the cage. I'll enjoy it like that for a while before i start any other mods!!!

Updated pic of the M3 after claying and polishing...

Cage all bolted in now, with padding where needed and some carbon trims fitted. Grip tape also fitted in. But i have a problem!!! The rear subframe is knocking again and after checking it on the ramp at work there is play in the rear trailing arms. I fitted a brand new beam last year with new bearings, etc. Although I did use "firstline" bearings and not genuine parts.
So I'll have to spend more time on the car, before fully enjoying it.

If anybody has any usefull tips when fittting the new bearings, please do say.
Cheers.

Cheers. Z3M issue sounds like vanos solenoid o-rings or the rubber grommet onto the tank vent valve under the inlet manifold has fallen off. If its the S50 engine.
I'll see if we have a spare TIS CD.

Any pics of the grease nipple in place on the beam??? Which grease should I use?
Cheers.

Cheers. Z3M issue sounds like vanos solenoid o-rings or the rubber grommet onto the tank vent valve under the inlet manifold has fallen off. If its the S50 engine.
I'll see if we have a spare TIS CD.
that would be great, thanks

i will see if they have taken a look at what you have suggested. are they know probs?

Update time,

Cage is all in and painted the bolts in matt black so it looks better. Really happy with that.

Not happy with getting rear beam refurbed professionally, only for it to start knocking after 10 miles of driving it. Fucking pissed at that.

Car has also developed a fuel smell. If I leave the car overnight it will smell inside the car. A strong smell is also evident if driving with the passenger window down. I little search on here points to either...
1. Green breather t piece on fuel tank
2. Fuel sender seal
3. Fuel cap seal
4. Fuel filter area.

Had a quick check and there are no obvious leaks or stain's. I'll post up what i find.

So with Castle Combe this sat I'm sure the rear beam will fall off and then burst into flames... with any luck!

Rant over. I'm off for a drive in the M3.
