Using sidelights/headlights in the daytime

Hello,

I often use my sidelights at daytime, and sometimes even headlights. I don't know why I do, it's just habit.

What are people's opinions on this topic?

Thanks,

Darren

People think its safer - personally I dont

Because when your rear lights are on all day it kinda makes it harder to spot when your braking

I'm a fan of the 3rd brake light and believe it should be compulsory.

I guess it kind of makes sense it being safer / easier to spot... Purely because i think "Why has that goon got his lights on?!" lol

Irritates the fuck out of me tbh, im sure that i can see your car in daylight without the need of your lights.

its on the same level as the fking idiots that have their fog lights on where there's no fog about.

I didn't used to, but nowadays even if its slightly overcast I just turn my lights on as soon as I start the car, just instinctively. It's better to be seen than not.

there is a statistic that reckons youre less likely to be in an accident with your lights on, but that may just be that volvos have less accidents!

It does increase fuel consumption, and tbh i would only do it, as the highway code suggests, in conditions of poor visibility.

S1's don't have sidelights as such, if you notice they grow in intensity when you switch them on.

I remember this being on a lot of UK cars manufactured around 1995/6.
Think the idea was to use as a 'day running light'.

Don't know if S2's have same set up ?

Sorry but I always do - I've been used to driving in a black car and I'd had a number of very near misses where people pulled out on me on motorways, and on sideroads. Admittedly I was usually going a little faster then perhaps sensible, but since then I've always used my headlights when driving. Who cares about fuel consumption when you're talking thousands of pounds to replace a car (or worse hurt someone).

I need to sort my S1 headlights mind, as one is very much higher then the other and blinds people - whoops. The S1 sidelights are odd as they light up the whole headlight quite bright. Definitely worth having on. If you look in most photos of the NW drive outs we all run with sidelights on...

i know what you mean dude-I have a black saxo and get the same thing-although I only have lights on when I drive to work in the morning when it's slightly dusky or rainy, or when the visiblity is bad, otherwise I don't bother.
