Gran Turismo 6

Anybody got any plans to get GT6? Post your usernames and we could set up a race or something. After a bit of a play I can safely say it is epic. Brands Hatch is a great addition and when I get levelled up, the Goodwood Hill Climb is there too

Got the G25 set up after some time it has to be said, kinda geeky but sod it! My first purchase was naturally an indigo blue S2 Rallye.

I had it on pre-order but was let down, so haven't got it yet. My life has moved on since GT5 was released three years ago, so I'm no longer welded to my controller, but wouldn't mind sinking some time into GT6 as well. Did you get it from a shop or pre-order? Most places seem to have it for 40 at the moment and I dithered a bit when Amazon were selling it for 35.

Already got my first license and enough credit to buy an NSX Type R, but had to pack it all away again so I can get back to work and leave it for the kids on Christmas day!

I skipped GT5, but certainly much smoother physics than GT4, especially in oversteer.

It really is very good. Although you cannot get the full effect without using a wheel. I got sent a code for a million credits and some cars fro pre ordering but haven't used them as yet, kinda spoils the game.

It's nice to see brake upgrades coming back and also a few more things to tune on the cars (although it's no Forza). I just wish they'd change that tyre squeal, it's better, but still shite.

No time for game's me, sounds like non of you are getting worked hard enough! I sold the xbox last year as all it did is collect dust, think i used it twice then it sat there for nearly 2 years!lol

I was always need for speed 1 & 2 as you could do whatever you wanted to the car's. Love them kind of games but I'd never get chance to play it, or if i do i can't be arsed.

To frickin cold this time of year for my bolloxed knees. To be in the garage every night.

Got to wait for the 17th for mine, unless I can wangle it out of the missus before my bday. I'll work on her tonight!

We should have a few races with users on here. You'll kick my ass though.

The Gt series by far the best console based simulator. Never enough rally cars or stages though. Bastards.

Yes indeed, I dunno. I reckon there's a few bandits on here... matty_d89 if you fancy it. Just unlocked the Goodwood FoS hill climb, I'm hooked.

Haha it is bloody freezing. Training on the Severn with the lifeboat is starting to get very interesting. Won't be long before we have freezing visors and everything. Good to stay in a warm house!!!

I'm interested to hear what it's like as I might splash out and buy a PS3 if I can find any good deals.
One question, what does it take to run PS2 USB steering wheels on a PS3.

Many years ago I built a seat with a proper gearchange and handbrake and I fancy a play with it again.

I have a Logitech G25 and that works through the USB slot with an external power pack for the force feedback. Easy as that, plug and play. I'd love to have one of those set ups tbh. You should be able to pick up some cheap deals I would have thought, people will be selling up for the PS4. Personally, I'm keeping the PS3, not much of a gamer and it's still a very good console.

What wheel do you have?

I've actually got 2. One is the Logitech Wingman. Very old but it worked fine on whatever the last Gran Tourismo was on PS2. For some reason it wouldn't work on other games so I bought the equivilent playstation of the time and that works on anything PS2.
I really ought to go and dig everything out as I can't remember what half of it is now ! The last time I had any spare cash to spend on toys like that was about 9 years ago before my daughter was born !

The seat isn't anything special, lots of chipboard and a gearlever and handbrake from a MK3 escort I think. It's got a sequential type change that operates a pair of microswitches and the handbrake uses the handbrake warning light switch. Both are conected into the steering wheel but I can't remember quite how I did it now !

Not a brilliant picture due to the white radiator and the black paint. Also notice the state of the art (about 20 years ago) TV.
The seat is out of my Mini after I fitted a proper one to go hillclimbing so isn't the best and I get bach ache after a while. I might upgrade to one of the old AX seats I have if it's narrow enough.

We built one at Uni that was integrated into an ikea chair, not sure I've got any pics of it but it was pretty cool. Tempted by the ones on eBay, like this one ->http://bit.ly/1eWIYtB

Ahhh but when the Mrs says no, it actually means do the complete opposite...

My steering wheel is very old looking at that picture, I don't even have a clutch pedal ! It does make left foot braking easier though.
The seat I built is very over the top but it had to be strong enough for an old style telly to sit on. I found a site somewhere and a guy had converted his garage to a games room. He had the front of a car in there and screens in front and both sides. Gets to the point when it would be cheaper to go racing for real !

Right, can anyone offer any more info about the USB connections on a PS3 ? If my steering wheel will work a PS3 is going on my Christmas list, I'm sure my son and daughter really want one as well, they just don't know it yet !

My missus has just popped out, winner! Feel like a kid again trying to sneak in going on it.

Sent you a request buddy. I'll look after this race Steve and double check. Nothing wrong with a G27 upgrade though...

Fully supported wheels are:

Thrustmaster T500
Driving Force GT
Driving Force Pro
Driving Force EX
Driving Force
GT Force
G27
G25

This isn't to say yours won't work though, many wheels do work they just aren't "fully supported". I would say yes it will work (as GT bum Logitech) but have you got any mates that you could borrow a PS3 and GT5P or something to test?

Is the sound any better than GT5? What about the menus?

Massive loading times and crap sound were the two things that absolutely ruined GT5 for me. That, and having to have a 100MB update every week!

Sounds do seems little better, the tyre squeal is similar but has been improved. The one big thing is very short loading times, from home screen to race is less than a minute in some cases, and so far it hasn't felt as if I've waited long at all... Big bonus. Menus look good but have spent more time playing to really comment on menus

Sounds a bit better, how are the menus transitioning between race series etc? I got sick of each level taking 15s to load, which sounds petty, but it should be near-instant.

Everything on the menu side of things is near enough instant. The one big bug bear I have with it though is the amount of cars that are premium models (I.e not modelled inside and to their full potential etc). Get annoying if you use the in car view but apart from that all good. Get the Rocket car by the Light car Company, I love it.

I don't own a console but i do occasionally have a dabble on PC sims, shame my wheel rig is packed away at the moment. I play a lot at LAN though.

iRacing if i have somebody to practice with (cba to put hours in otherwise these days)
rFactor i have too.
Dirt, WRC 4 too.

Current triple screen setup, just new desk doesn't fit a wheel due to curved edges!

Rig i built a while ago:

That is proper commitment! I've just got a pop up table atm, it's fairly shite as the force feedback tends to dismantle it...

I feel better I'm not the only one who got a bit carried away. I still don't know if Santa will be kind this year but it gives me something to look forward to.

Matty, go for the softer suspension set up and keep clear of the rumble strips !

Wish you hadn't posted this, i am now looking at wheels and pedals! Any recommendations, will mean me buying gt6 then too!

Only thing with the wheel stand is just how good it will actually work and if it will stay stationary.

Logitech Force GT is good value and designed for GT5. I have one, and even compared to the more expensive ones (like a G25/G27) it stands up immensely well.

I have a G25 and can't rate it highly enough. Bought it new for 90 delivered about 3 years ago and haven't looked back. They are worth more second hand now than when new. Not used any other wheel so can't comment.

I'm gunna go buy me some MDF and design something tomorrow at work.

Fanatec wheels are cool. Gotta be the 'clubsport' stuff though.

Also, check out the FREX stuff.. its amazingly expensive but oh my days, the mclaren F1 of sim racing... Until simXperience bring out their Accuforce wheel which is set to be the bollocks. probably about 500 - 1000 at a guess? who knows.

Santa was kind and brought me one !
I have only managed a few quick goes but have found that my wheel will work. I had to sort a conflicting button issue but it's just a case of choosing the wheel with the least buttons and assigning the ones I want. I just plugged my steering wheel into the spare USB port so I can continue using most of the buttons on that one for menu scrolling etc.

First impressions are that it's brilliant I am going from PS2 though !

I tried a small HDMI monitor and it's so much clearer I have ordered a larger HD monitor and will pick up tomorrow.

I've spent more on this than my 106 cost to buy !

Result!

Let me know your username and we can hook up for a race. The online races I've done have been very competitive and unusually, ramming is the minority, very clean racing! Couldn't believe it.

I've been following/competing with Mankee's licence times as i think he's a bit more ahead than me, with some success but it would be good to have a race at some point.

I haven't ventured online with it yet. I will get the new monitor set up and get some practice. I've not been able to play on games for any great length of time as I always get a bad back ! Need to sort the seat ut as well.

Thanks for you advice with the wheel. If I had listened to the guy in the shop I wouldn't have bothered getting one.

The best money you can spend improving racing sims is a wheel! Enjoy.

I have it! I have an onyx black s2 and a Bmw e90 330i

I actually own a onyx black s1 and bmw e90 330d so it's pretty good!
They seem to have the handling of the Bmw spot on! I'd love to get a wheel for it!
The mrs has said she wants to do the nurburgring this year so we best both get practicing
