Bought myself an XSi

Hey All,

Well I finally took the plunge and bought a 106 Xsi!

1995 M reg 1.6 Xsi in black
116K Miles on it
Tax and Mot'd

Mods

Stainless Steel 4-2-1 Manifold (no idea what make??)
Custom powerflow duplex exhaust - basically 2 twin exhausts out of the rear...loud
Sparco Upper Strut Brace
K+N Induction Kit
Show Cage
15in TSW alloys - two tone silver/black - think they are called Volcano's
Headlight Eyebrows
RGM front spoiler
Lexus Lights
Tinted Windows
Richbrook Steering Wheel, handbrake, gearknob and gaitors

The car ran well and drove home from Oxford to Cardiff, its a bit chavved up for my liking but will be getting rid of the front spoiler, headlight eyebrows, lexus lights ASAP

Will give it a good clean, inside and out and polish when i get chance!

Thanks for the welcome guys...

Cant stop playing with the Xsi now...

Lexus Lights, front splitter, headlight eyebrows are gone...so looks a lil less MAX POWER SUPER CHAV

Guessing the owner must have kept the smoothed bonnet as its had a standard one on it when i picked it up...phew!

Rear seats are out and in the wash...plan to strip the interior, give it a damn good clean and get it all back in there!

Personally I like the look of the exhaust, just not the constant loud ROAR it chucks out! Funds are tight at the mo, so really only tidying car up etc only a small budget...when i get some £££ it maybe sitting on S2 steelies and have a Pugsport exhaust!

Will get some pics up asap

UPDATED

A few pics now thats it slightly less max power super styling

Lexus Lights removed, spent an hour cleaning the original lights off my other 106 and they came up like new!

Headlight brows were fitted with rather nasty glue which took me a while to clean off the headlights!

Front splitter was a complete pain in the arse going over speed bumps so thats off!

Comedy exhaust still fitted

that's gunna be mint when its got the pugsport and steels on. pugsport ought to be the priority though. the exhaust is really letting it down at the mo.

if it was mine, i'd probably peel the tints off too, or replace them with a lighter shade.

if you plan to get the interior out, it would be rude to put it back in too!

god this Xsi/rallye lark is addictive

No major updates but done a few small jobs:

* Clear side indicators gone - standard yellows ones back on
* Fitted some kind of black plastic breather in between rear bumper and wheel arch lining and a plastic blank on the other side, found this to be why my xsi was stinking with dirt/grime in the boot!
* Stripped rear interior - cleaned everything and put it all back in
* Front seats have been out and cleaned
* Front drivers wheel arch liner fitted as it was missing!

Probs a few other random jobs

Anyways I started to tidy up the engine bay today, the main source of annoyance was the rocker cover which was a right mess!

Removed rocker cover and spent an hour or 2 sanding it back to metal - phoned up local metal finishing company to see if i could get it anodized red or blue... £80!!!!!!!!!!! Rather keep the £80 and put it towards a pugsport and get rid of comedy exhaust!

Rocker cover has now been sprayed silver/grey using special high temp paint but not 100% happy with outcome colour, could i paint the rocker using hammerite now that it has the high temp paint as a base???

More pics updates to follow

UPDATED

Left the rocker cover to dry over night before re-fitting it the next morning...

Pleased with how it turned out, looks much better than previous engine bay pic above!

Also sprayed the 2 bolts that hold on the cover black

Fitted some random bit of pipe to act and an air feed using the original fitting off my other 106, not sure if its helping but will be there until i get myself a BMC CDA system!

Need to take it somewhere to get some better pics now!

Anyone identify the manifold...is it a raceland? what are those 2 brackets for coming off it?

Like the silver rocker cover

Yeah, that's a Raceland 4-2-1, the little brackets are for a heatshield, but you have to bend them out of the way to fit the thing, so they're pretty much useless!

thanks dudes...

going to service it tomorrow, oil, oil filter, plugs, fresh water, engine flush etc

spotted the lower water hose looks to have had an extremely bodged repair job using a blue plastic bag and cable ties!!!!!!!

So will check the condition of the one on my other 106 doomed for the scrap yard as a replacement before trying to source a new one or a samco one if poss!

Fog lights have been removed and hopefully will be refurbed asap

also have 1 ton of dodgy wiring which leads to the amp fitted in the rear with 6x9's - which has past its sell by date and will be ripped out, honestly think i will see some enhanced performance from removing this wiring

Updated

Been busy servicing the car and lots of other random jobs,

* 6x9's speakers on parcel shelf removed (after a plain black parcel shelf if anyone has one)
* Amplifier and a load of wiring removed

Removing the wiring took alot longer than i had thought, the wiring was run under the carpet, and fixed below the runner on drivers door, which meant carpet and seats had to be removed. On the plus side i did find some spare change !

* Oil catch tank

Bought an oil catch tank on ebay and fitted it earlier this morning, used 16mm hose from the tank and didnt think about the rocker outlet being any bigger etc so I had to use some random bits of hose lying around to make it up...should be fine until i spot some better stuff on the web ( after a hose with a 90 ish deg bend so that i can come straight off the rocker outlet to the catch tank and reduce the amount of hose)

Feeling pleased with myself after fitting it, went to start the car to see it all running and nothing!

Could hear a very fast paced clicking noise coming from fusebox area, i believe the battery wasnt powerful enough to disengage the alarm and immobilizer! So the alarm/immob was trying to activate???

Anyway battery has been removed and is being charged, which lead me to discover the next job i would be faced with!

One of the bolts that holds the battery tray in place was missing, which caused the battery to rock. I had to centre pop and drill out the rest of the thread, then treated the rust areas underneath, stripped and painted the battery tray all ready to be re-fitted tomorrow!

one thing after another

rocker cover looks tidy and u gotta keep the comedy exhaust!!!

have u got a bigger picture of the breather tank? and where u get it? looks a cute one..

..im a sucker for goodridge pipe and red/blue fittings so the breather lines aint up to my standards tho

and perhaps an odd bit of samco pipe may do the trick for the different sizes etc

Oil catch tank is from ebay, seller ID 800bhp

Link to one i bought, but available in diff colours and shapes
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-ROUND-OIL-...742.m153.l1262

I didnt pay the postage, had a paypal code, something like cheers1 or 001

Used those Peugeot special square bolts, have a square head that clicks into square hole and provides a bolt out...luckily two of the squares are right there! Slight bent the bracket it came with to get it to sit better, would advise going for a square/rectangle shape tank as it would sit flat to the body!

Yeah looked for some fancy hose etc but catch tank arrived and i was dying to fit, so hose only cost me 3.99! When i find some better fitting and colourful pipe i will get some

Hank willing to swap for Parcel shelf, as long as its black in good nic and you throw 10 my way???
If you wish you could remove the mechanisms ASAP and pay me at a later date?

UPDATED

Battery turned out to be flat, got the car started this morning using a battery booster pack and set off for uni.

Only got a few yards down the road before a very loud banging noise and the car shaking...turned back and headed for home! I thought it could have been the Oil catch tank having clearance issues with the steering rack etc

It turned out to be that 3 of 4 wheel bolts on passenger front wheel were missing! Only 1 bolt and that was barely tight, held the wheel on! Honestly think if i had gone a lil further i would have done some serious damage!

Problem fixed, also took the battery off my other 106 and put it on the Xsi...fixed the problem of the battery tray rocking and whilst i was at it, i rust treated the area below battery tray, stripped and sprayed the battery tray

Only a quick job with the rust treatment as it was pitch black and freezing cold!

Im guessing those wires should not be exposed, top left of battery tray?

I dont know about clean, think i can get away with it on a black car its been up on ramps the last week or so, gathering dust

Pugsport - well i want to hear that rasp that everyones on about but dont want the problems that seem to come with them...looking into the Kam Racing Supersprint exhaust, its cheaper, no diff in performance, and better build quality but no rasp But got the MOT in June, so will buy one and fit it after that i expect

Quote:

Do you want 2 seperate bits or just 1 part?

The middle section which goes around the hazzard lights, heated window, fog light button etc, that was damaged, and not really any good, even if i did try to tart it up and wrap it in carbon fibre effect vinyl

or are you after the 1 long thin strip, that goes along the bottom of the switches, all the way around the top of the radio, and over the clocks...if soo i believe it can be yours

CAR UPDATES

Today i set about fitting the lower water hose

* removed thermostat from housing, to allow me to flush engine
* engine and radiator flushed
* re-fitted and sealed thermostat
* broke head clean off bolt by over tightening 1 of 2 thermostat housing screws
* de tour from water hose job, to remove the rest of the bolt
*working from underneath the car, fitted water inlet adaptor, requires alot of patience
* fitted hose at lower radiator
*fitted hose at inlet
*connect the lot back up
*re-filled system with water and anti freeze

Quite pleased with the skills im picking up, and confidence with working on the car, with no other experience!

Also fitted ECU Cover, and new shiney radiator cap

Battery had gone flat, from being un-used outside the house for a while, so have yet to start the car, fingers crossed!

Pic below shows old parts and the new bits, water inlet was split in 3!

Spax PSX front shocks arrived from Lindsay thanks
Spring clamps arrived from ebay
HT lead holder arrived too

Also picked up a set of Corbeau Forza bucket seats in black

These cars just make you wanna spend money on them, its a health condition, something wrong with us all

really?

it always looks pretty clean, especially compared to my older white one!

UPDATES

Set about starting the car for the 1st time since changing the lower water hose and replacing the inlet adaptor on the rear...car started up, drove down the street, big smile on my face was nice to be back in my Xsi!

Drove only few hundred yards, left it running outside the house whilst i checked underneath to see for any water leakages, but to my shock, theres a thin stream of oil pissing out of it! Doh!

After posting help thread on here, believe its down to the deterioration of the headgasket.

Considering doing it myself, but the only part i'm worried about is the timing! So going to ring around for some prices and if I have enough get it done at a garage, if not, i will be brave and do it myself!

Cost me 100, to have it done on the old 1.0 106, including parts and the head being sent off to be skimmed. (roughly two years ago, and since then the family friend mechanic's reputation is not as good as it use to be)

Now have all crazy ideas running through my head, about 16v'ing it! Although i love the high revvy 8v

* engine and radiator flushed
* re-fitted and sealed thermostat

These cars just make you wanna spend money on them, its a health condition, something wrong with us all
the thin bit all the way round how much you looking for it and would you bring it to the rr day down llandow if your going thanks john
