Not me,

Not for any particular reason, but I do feel that top gear is more miss than hit and has been for a while (although I am clearly in a minority)
Plus it seems that Clarkson has completely dissapeared Up his own arse hole - and I have no time for people like that.

Don't forget clarksons business partner in TG is one of the producers...... It could just be a publicity thing.

Meh, it won't do any good. He's on his last warning from the beeb, they can't let something like that slide.

It doesn't bother me too much either because a) TG isn't that good any more and b) something similar will end up on another channel, or Clarkson will retire of course.

Don't forget he cashed in 12m for the TG brand a few years ago, he's certainly set for life!

Does anyone know exactly what has happened? I know he 'allegedly' hit a producer over a tiff about food, but that's only 'allegedly'! How can people petition for his reinstatement when they don't even know why he was dismissed?!

I love topgear, and think the way clarkson just says what he wants when he wants to is great. To many people don't say what they want to for fear of any backlash! Although that doesn't excuse some of his more dickish behaviour!!!

Not bothered, it's been a bit shit over the lasts few seasons. Although this one was getting better until the Peugeot feature and the Rallycross (which could have been epic but was ruined by Hammond and Clarkson).

Bring on Cris Evans or even Chris Harris (I do like his videos, what Top Gear should be like).

I like Top Gear, I don't particularly JC.
He has had enough warnings.

Chris Evans for me would make an ideal replacement.

Having said that, I can see Sky coming in with an offer for the three of them and taking the whole programme.

I think the bloke is a dick, completely lost interest in it over the last few years. Hammond lives in the same town as me and he's just as much of a dick. No loss for me

I agree, the enthusiasm of a genuine enthusiast is what's required, Chris would be great.

I've been enjoying Jodie Kidd's enthusiasm on the classic car show, admittedly the program is a little lacking - Chris Harris (or some young lunatic) Chris Evans and Jodie Kidd could do a good show between them I reckon.

I have a few opinions on the matter. On the point of the whole bbc affair, it does certainly reek of publicity stunt, I found Hammond and Mays comments on Twitter to be an almost contempt of their employers especially so quick after the whole incident unfolded in the press. But if something has happened, I found it strange the bbc would cancel shows, that's like cutting your nose off to spite your face. Top gear is worth hundreds of millions to the bbc, but then clarkson is a big part of that. Considering the reputation the bbc now has in the shadows of the Saville scandals, clarkson could quite easily do a Jonny Ross and jump ship. He is indeed bigger than the bbc. But then top gear itself isn't what it was, it hasn't moved along with a pace of improvement. The filming, editing, production, even music choice is epic, but let down by silly little things, mainly the 3 of them. As mentioned above the polo rally cross feature was ruined by them just being silly little boys. Top gear was good because of the clever creativeness, now you know and feel almost everything is set up for entertainment rather than just being entertaining. Shame really. Top gear won't survive without clarkson, and his contract Is up soon, but clarkson will certainly survive without the bbc.

A couple of interesting posts on the source of JC love from Pistonheads:

What he said.

Nothing excuses assault or bullying of work colleagues. I don't think any sane person would try to defend that.

But... Many millions of ordinary people, in their spare time, enjoy:

Rude jokes.
Offensive jokes.
Casually racist jokes.
Sexual innuendos and humour.
Jokes about women.
Jokes about disabled people.
Jokes about vegetarians.
Freedom from constant moaning about environmental concerns and melting ice while they drive their weekend cars at 17mpg.
Firing shotguns and rifles.
Hunting and shooting animals for sport.
Discussing how much other cultures or countries annoy them.
Indulging in a bit of loutish drunken 'rugby club' type behaviour.

But despite millions of people enjoying those things, apparently they aren't 'allowed' to have TV programs or media that reflect this, because somebody somewhere, finds it offensive and disagrees with it.

Clarkson is one of the few people, still in mainstream media, on channels like the BBC, that represent those people and the things they enjoy in life.

If Top Gear/Clarkson/similar things get taken away, what will people be left with as mainstream entertainment? Cookery programs? X Factor?

The travesty is taking the show off air.

On purely financial terms the Beeb would be mental to can the show. It is their most profitable programming.

Like Clarkson or loathe him, he and the others do know their stuff when it comes to cars and they are passionate about it.

Yes the show has not always been stellar in the last few years, but even at its lowest it blows "I can't sing but listen to me try", "I can't dance watch me fall over" or the "I'm a nobody get me out of here" reality dribble out of the water. It's the only thing I go out of my way to watch.

As has been said above the show and the format is about sticking two fingers up to attempts to stifle a non conformist social point of view and for that, losing it would be a great shame.

Re: the incident I suspect it has been blown out of all context. Remember THAT Fawlty Towers sketch, I can't believe that the big buffoon wasn't aping it to some degree. The fact he missed his steak dinner because he was down the pub after a long day having a few pints...

How many of us have done that and then paid the consequences for it when we got home from the missus/parentals? I have for sure. It's just we didn't have a chopper and a crew as a taxi

15.30 onwards for the younger generation

I lost interest in that show ages ago, it's been no big loss since its been off tv. People will forget about the old tired format soon enough.

I know it's not popular with a few on here, but it is popular. It didn't need replicate the format of the old show. Fifth Gear has done that. I remember the old show well - it was from a time when there used to be some great programming on the TV.

Kickstart which introduced the nation to Dougie Lampkin, Tony Mason commentating on WRC and RAC rallies, all the F1 races.

I'm looking forward to the next iteration of TG. The change could be as radical as the one that introduced May and Hammond.

Is that confirmed yet? Monkey is very entertaining, hopefully he'll manage the transition to full-time TV OK.
