Jon Ambler: what he be up to nowadays?

Anyone else remember the name from several years back? Maybe Gregg and Mike from PGAC/SSC days? I spotted his name and email address on an events list for Lotus on Track a few days ago. Is he big in MG circles now?

Not heard or spoken to him for ages, I thought he went off and did a bit of travelling or working overseas for a bit.

Vallis. The name rings a bell. White S/C GTi, maybe? Does the PGAC still exist?

Is that the one that says to lift-off at about 100mph "to settle the back into the turn"?

Definitely not the same Dale, as Lomas, who runs Rent-4-Ring and Bridge to Gantry, is pretty bloody handy behind the wheel! He's on Northloop quite a bit.

My first time out on track, I made the rookie mistake of letting off on a bad corner at 40mph... I can only imagine what would happen at 100!

Hello!

I'm not sure what prompted me to have a look on the Rallye Register as it's been years but it was nice to see my name on there!

I'm still around though less so on the internet, find me on Facebook though, its useful for keeping in contact

After Uni (a few years ago now) I went travelling and when I came back I bought a brush painted black rallye and resprayed it matt black. Then a 16v engine appeared so it seemed rude not to put it in. I had it for a little while but ended up getting a job with a 90 mile round trip which wasn't the most pleasant or cost effective in a 16v Rallye with no soundproofing. I then had my 'dark days', a 306HDi for over two years. It was dog slow but was brilliant for going sideways everywhere. Luckily, I realised I was being boring so bought a DC2 Integra and had that for two and a half years. It's probably the best all round car I've owned and best of all only depreciated 300 in 2 1/2 years and 35,000 miles. I sold that and replaced it with my current car, a VX220.

The picture was taken at Llandow last month. Strangely, I think it was taken by Rallye Matt? I only realised when I got home and recognised the name.

Hi Ben - Sorry I didn't see your message. When my membership ran out several years ago my PM limit was reduced so I couldn't receive any messages. I've still got your old rally car. It got put away in a barn in a part completed state about 3 years ago when I had job stability issues and never really got back out.

I miss you too Kenich! I've done a few MotorsportEvents days around your area over the last few months and plan to do more if you fancy any?

Good old PGAC, now that was a long time ago, I think I joined in about 2000. It was interesting as one of the early successful car forums, they're all over the place these days.

Strangely enough I bumped into Rallye Matt in the MotoGP paddock this year at Silverstone last year taking pics!

Is it a turbo'd VX220? I can never tell the differences between the two cars.

I think that's an N/A one, the turbo ones have bigger, sproutier inlets at the rear wings iirc.

Ben, I think I'll keep it for now, but if it stays in the shed much longer then it'd definately been tempting to get rid of it. It's been stripped and resprayed since you had it, and not a lot else.

Will do Kenich. Lindsey says hello (I think I should be worried!)

It's an NA VX220 though a supercharger one day would be nice. So far I've uprated the suspension bushes, fitted Nitron shocks and springs and R888's

Mankee, are you doing the LOT day?

There used to be a couple of road-going VX220s that used to stick out to me in the community. One of them had something mad like 450bhp and another had some sort of V8 shoe-horned into it. Not sure how I feel about both of those, as surely there will be an upsetting of balance one way or another?

I got my LoT stuff through the post yesterday and have been eyeing up some track time for a few weeks now. But I've lightly shagged my engine for now so need to fix that first before booking any more. I can't believe Spa in March was so cheap! I'm not surprised it sold out so quick. I'm thinking of doing Silverstone GP in March and either Folembray or Hethel in May.

I stumbled upon this after trying to find out what happened to PGAC.

What a great club and forum that was when I was 17/18 . 12 years ago!
