Seat Leon Supercopa

Well, the 106 is no more.

It has been replaced with this, which I hope you like!

Looks very sweet mate, any more details? I presume it's a 2.0T. Are you still going to be doing TinTops etc, but in a more muscly class?

This is way beyond Tin Tops!
I'm doing a few NWS&S this year, and then on to some endurance races next season.

I'd say it's the 350bhp variety!

Jeeeesus!!! Fair play, they are cracking bits of kit. Seen a few Supercopa races at Brands when they followed the WTCC.

The similarities end at the shape of the shell.
These were built by Seat Sport from a bare shell.
Almost every item is a bespoke Seat Sport item.
It has about 340bhp, 1200kg's, aero package including full flat floor.
This one has also had Seat Sport upgrades.

I will post more pics if people are interested?

Is the pope a catholic?! Of course we want more pics.

Does it use the modified DSG box or is it a fancy sequential?

Awesome

Always fancied one of these, have you had it out on any test days yet?

I was at oulton a couple of weeks back, first time out this year had a great race in the intermarque

Are you doing some Britcar rounds then? Got a few pals who have a G50, tempted to do a round, big bucks tho !!!

Good luck. Lee

Lee, I am hoping to be out at Anglesey in it in July.
After that, I am thinking of either Britcar, or CSCC New Millenium.

Next season the plan is for Britcar24 again.

Gone up Scotland way to be a rally car iirc. Hopefully it won't get stacked into too many bits of scenery, nice shell that.

The 106 is spread far and wide, except for the engine which I still have, and am reluctant to sell!
Shell is in Scotland, and will be used as a rally car.
Front suspension is going on a road rally car.
Rear suspension has gone.
Brakes have gone.

I've got the engine, a set of wheels, a set of slicks and a few ancillary bits and pieces.

If I didn't already have 2 sets of wheels for my S2 I'd have your wheels.

Maybe you need a road-going car with a ridiculous SB engine in it?

I remember being on a test day at Castle Coombe in a 106 stock hatch and someone was testing one of these and it was absolutely flying, fantastic bit of kit!

ah, on his it was just a skin or something. it may be a slightly different leon race car then. it looked very similar in the pics we were sent after it had been re painted.

this was the joys of a car having no chassis number either

Air jacks= more friggin money!

GT40 = hehehe

Anglesey 11/12 July is first race. There may be a cheeky test or two beforehand.
We need to learn this car and all it's nuances.
It's got history and pedigree, I just hope we can do it justice.

In it's previous clothes, whilst in Belgium:

Front splitter and floor section......................5k! Yikes

and fixings to hold it in place

It was too wide for my trailer, so I had to dig deep and buy a Brian James A-Max

......which needed the obligatory repairs to the lighting

It came with the standard ramps, which are not long enough

We got it on there with careful placement of timber!

Sat with it's stablemate

And one of it in period!

Mike totally off topic
But how did you find the prg ETech is it nice to tow / do the ramps rattle around and make loads of noise like the older style trailers?

It towed very well. I notice that PRG space axles out a bit more than Brian James.

With regards the ramps, they are slide out as opposed to sitting 'on the bed'.
When empty they do rattle. When loaded, the car seems to damp the noise quite a bit.

I'm off to Anglesey with it in a few weeks, on the A-Max, and I'll be able to give a good comparison between the two.

What is immediately noticeable is the PRG's bed is higher than the BJ.

I've started packing the car ready for Friday's test at Anglesey.
One thing is for sure, the spares and equipment take up a lot more room than what I used to carry for the 106.
I think I need a van again!

I also bought a GPS unit to plug into the AiM dash, but that is playing up.

Longer ramps have been ordered for the trailer, and I've also fitted a longer length jockey wheel. They should alleviate the loading issues.

We had a good weekend at Anglesey.

Testing on Friday was going well until the front wheels started to fall off. This was caused by the freshly powder coated wheels, the nuts were seating properly within the rim- they were just gripping the paint.
That was soon rectified and we were off again!

Race1 on saturday was a quiet affair, I found myself with no-one to race which was ideal as it meant I could continue to ramp up the 'test' miles. Still, we cam home second in class.

Race2 on sunday was a bit busier. I had a terrible start and lost five places. They were soon made up though.......and a couple more for good measure. The race ended with a quiet spell. 1st in class though

The big question is, how does it compare to the 106?
It's a tough question. It doesn't feel as quick, and it certainly doesn't feel as powerful as it should. I suspect that this can be put down to the 1300kgs it has to haul around!! You can certainly feel that weight too. I'd love to lose 200kg's out of it which would be feasible if I put my mind to it.
So, going back to comparisons, it didn't feel as quick and you can't chuck it around. It needs finesse and coaxing. That said, my quickest lap time in the 106 was a 1:23, the Supercopa was doing 1:16's !!! YIKES!
If we bolted on a set of medium tyres instead of the hard/ endurance tyres then I think we could get another 1.5 seconds.

Do I miss the 106? Yes.
Would I go back? No.

Good write up Mike. I've seen that issue of wheels coming lose in the past. I'd advise anyone who has painted or power coated their wheels to clean off the paint/powder where the wheel nuts/bolts pinch the wheel.

Any video Mike? Looking evil as ever.

Do you reckon 200kg is doable? Presumably because it was a one-make series the shells weren't gone over with a fine-tooth comb to remove every gram they could.

There's definitely weight to come off it. Think Mike is going on a diet too!

200kgs is easily achievable. It still has glass and steel boot/ bonnet for a start.
The level of prep on the shell is something to behold. The more you look the more you see.
I am inclined to leave it as it is in order to keep it eligible for other championships.

There is video but I'm struggling to edit it currently.

I just got a chance to read throughout this. Beautiful car and the very best of luck with it Mike.

I have a Mk5 GTI with 350bhp & 400ft lb and it can freekin move so your car must be a handful.

It's not too bad to be honest. The fact that Seat Sport re-engineered all the front suspension, the ZF diff and of course massive slicks all help to get the power down in a reasonable manner.
There are a couple of 450bhp ones that also have no issues with handling, but the engines don't seem to last too long!
