106 Rallye Winter Project 2010/2011 Part 2

While we had the engine out we noticed the front wish bone bushes where looking a little tired and there was a lot of play in them, along with the Track Rod Ends. So we ordered in some new ones. We also replaced the Gear box linkages at the same time.

With the front struts out to be cleaned and painted I noticed some oil leaking from both dampers, so again new Bilstein dampers got fitted before we refitted them to the car. A bit of sanding and a few coats of Halfords finest paint soon got them looking like new.

Last on the list to sort was the front spam panel, I got the job of painting it, so if it wasnít right it was my problem. So again a bit of sanding and a few coats of Bianca White followed by a coat of lacquer it was as good as new again.

Now was the fun part of putting all back together. And to cut a long storey short we didÖ lol Iíll let the pictures to the talking.

Next up was to get the car home and give it a good clean and detail after been sitting up in the garage for the last 12 months.

Before:

During:

After:

Next on the cards will be to clean up and seal the under side of the car.

Iíd like to say a thank you for all the help and work to Ged and his trusty helper Simon, (tbh Simon did all the work, but we wont mention that).
Cheers guys for everything.

Wayne

Thanks dave,
Yeah that would have been mine alright. I use to work for a company and it would have been parked in a small carpark on the Monaghan side of town every day.

The little Rallye got treated to 6 months tax today, it's also booked in for a service next Tuesday then it's all ready for a summer full of road trips and fun!

Last week my Rallye got its first big clean of 2012. Poor car had been sitting up in our garage since last October looking a little sorry for itself with close to 1 cm of dust on it.

So on a day off work last week I started to get it ready for the summer. Cleaned, polished and waxed using Autoglym and Meguires products as usual. This time I decided to clean some extra parts that I never usual was able to reach before, like behind the rear lights and under the scuttle panel.

Some pictures:

I also managed to tidy up the suede on my Sparco steering wheel, its not exactly as good as new, but its looking a lot better than it did before. I just used some Autoglym Interior Shampoo and a £1.59 suede brush from ebay.

Before

After

I found some black paint in the garage to repaint the screws holding the steering wheel to the hub, as they seemed to get rusty looking for some reason.

Car is booked in for a service tomorrow morning, then hoping to take the car out for a nice road trip at the weekend. So canít wait for that.

Looking great Wayne, brilliant work. Some more summer drives planned?

Is Nazor still about in the car with the Graffiti bonnet?

Thanks Cris, yeah he still has it, think he's planning in selling it on this summer as he doesn't really get the time to enjoy it anymore. Funky machine for sure.

Planning on going on a nice run up along the North East cost of Northern Ireland this weekend. So that should be fun, few mates will be taking their cars as well.

New Shoes?

Over the winter I'd been toying with the idea of getting four new steel wheels for my Rallye, the current ones are ok, front two are in good nick, but the rears are very rusty on it. So I'd really need to replace the rears.
I've always had the Speedline Comp2's but I've had them on the car since 2006 and I just fancy a bit of a change. So after a lot of scrolling through here my options where narrowed down to new steelies fitted with nice sticky tires or 205 GTI 1.9 wheels painted white.

So after a phone call to a friend of mine, I had sourced a clean set of GTI rims. I collected them last night, and they are in excellent condition. He had repainted them a few years back and they had sat in his garage ever since, so they really are like new. Its actually a shame to repaint them, but I think they will look great on my S2.

My plans are respray the wheels bianca white to match the car.

Small up date on the Rallye, something I have been talking about doing for a long time is wrap the B pillar on my 106, to match that of the Gti. Its only a small addition but I really think it cleans the lines of the car up nicely. I managed to get some carbon effect wrap of ebay pretty cheap a few months back, its not perfect, but it was just to get any idea of how it would look and if I liked it I would get he proper Gti covering from Peugeot.

Few pictures for you:

After:

Also popped the standard seat back in for the summer

I think the only set of wheels you need to complete your "most awesome wheels on an S2 Rallye collection" would be a set of Compomotive THs.

Cheers Dave, dont hold your breath. I love it, a lot of other cars have came and gone over the years but the rallye has always stayed.

Funny you should say that... I seen a set on a XR2i fiesta last weekend at a car show, and they are a stunning looking wheel. Maybe some day.

Cheers Trophy380,

Dave that MK2 looks perfect, stance, wheels everything looks spot on. I'd a MK2 myself a few years back, they really are a classic looking car. Love them.

Hmmmm To wash or Not To Wash... Some times i prefer my car with a few splashes of muck up the sides, gives it a proper rally car look...

20minutes later its all cleaned up again and ready for another run.
