S1 Rallye

Ok so i thought it was time i started a progress blog since ive started to finally work on the rallye and get it back up to scratch.

So started life as a standard rallye, just with a decat and 205 GTi wheels.

High milage but still pulled like a trooper. was running 94.5 BHP at the fly with idling problems whilst it was running quite lumpy.

First things i got were a pugsport, steelies and a service.

Steelies needed a refurb so i did that myself.

From:

To:

After the service and refurb it came towards MOT time, and also had an issue appear where my driveshafts started squealing lol That was interesting as it seemed to be one thing after another with it.

Had to go back to a standard exhaust, replace a rear wheel bearing, and replace both the drive shafts.

(pics to follow)

After that i bought a 4-2-1 raceland and refitted the pugsport. Heatwrapping is on order andwill be fitted this weekend

Nice job on the wheel spraying, what did you use? I've been trying to do mine and they look terrible!

ITs all about the prep i used some appliance gloss white paint on them out a rattle can. I spent ages doing the prep work though, alot of flating back (using 800, 1000 and 1200 git paper) and a few layers of primer, one of the wheels has peeled though as it didnt have enough laquer on so it needs redoing.

This weekend whilst i was away i also sent the rallye away to my mechanic friends to have a cam belt change and the manifold heatwrapped.

I left my friend to it over the weekend and just asked for the pictures at the end. I also got an earful about how he hates french cars after all the trouble my cam belt change caused him lol

Heres a few pictures!

he also re sealed my cam cover

So got the seats and managed to fit them before PPC luckily! Thanks to Rob @ Constella. It took 3 hours since they dont make short arse subframes and also we didnt have time to weld any plates in so had to make one or two modifications but in the end it all got sorted.

So pictures of my OMP ARS seats and 3 inch OMP 4 point harness's

Return of the Rallye!

After a write off from the insurance, I decided i was going to start repairing the car. Id made a start but was sure it wasnt going to be ready for pugfest, which come friday morning it wasnt anywhere near ready, so i gave up on the idea of taking it with me and just got to sorting out another ride and gettin a good nights sleep before camping.

Here was up to how it was on friday:

Stickers removed

All keyed up and smoothed off and the roof gone from this

Arches and bumpers, taken off and prepped

Then time for jigging out! this bit was scary as everytime they pulled it, the welds cracked and needed to be re welded before pulling fully

Then we welded up the arches where they were a little rusty

After jigging

Friday night little did i know, but my car was being worked on from about 5 pm all the way through till 2am, putting it all back together and all the stickers back on it and having a partial flat polish, so that when i woke up saturday morning i found a car wrapped up in a car cover with bow on top like this

Which then revealed my beautiful little rallye underneath

So we took the rallye to pugfest and here are a couple of pictures

Thanks guys soooo happy to have the car back

Good effort: it looked really tidy at Pugfest (it had both Tom J and I saying "I want a red one!" when we saw it).

Thanks Arnold!

Well a little update, (pics to be added tonight). After having the typical idle issues, overfueling etc that is far too common on these little 8valves, me and Rob stayed late at work and decided to take the rallye apart and replace the manifold gasket after checking everywhere else for air leaks and finding none.
when we took it off it was a mess, someone had had it off before and replaced it wrong so the gasket was hanging in and out of the manifold all over the shop.

Whilst the engine was in bits we checked the gear linkages (after my big hinting that i really deserved a shiny new set of gear linkage) of which one was bent, so i got my wish and got a nice new set which was lucky as we snapped one taking them off lol

since replacing the manifold gasket the car has been running so so much better, and we have also got rid of the huge flat spot! All we need now is to fix my rev counter and ill have a fully functioning rallye

Time and money on it is an understatement!

We will have to get the cars together in the flesh and compare!

You only have to glance at this blog to agree with that haha

Definatly thats the only way to compare(York and Nottingham aren't the closes of places though ). I've just refitted the decals, haven't done bad a few bubbles here and there in he side stripes, but looks a lot tidier now ;-)
