Power steering removal
Hi guys.
Right, I’ve had more than a few problems with my power steering. The motors fine but still very temperamental. I would like to remove the lot, I’ve read through previous threads and it has been mentioned that maybe the rack could seize ? I don’t wana be changing the steering rack ideally. Has any one removed the power steering and had any issues ? Any help would be much appreciated 🍻 cheers |

No the steering rack won't seize. The ram is bolted onto the steering rack, it's not integral to the rack.
I drove mine on the road for 5 years and it was fine. that was about 55k. Don't loop the ram, it'll make the steering even heavier. you could remove the ram all together if you want. |

Thanks for your reply, that’s the sort of feedback I was hoping for !
Could I ask, what did you use to ‘plug’ the holes ? I’ve been building this car for almost a year now and really don’t want to bodge anything. 🍻 |

I didn't, I left mine open! You could use the old pipe ends and crimp them. They'll need to have a small hole to let the air in and out though.
If you can, just whip the ram off the rack then you won't have to worry about it. |

Thanks again for your reply.
I have heard the method of crimping the pipes but I wouldn’t like to do this initially incase I want to revert back to PAS. I’m goin to have a crack at this later hopefully if I can refrain from having a few pint with my dinner. Do you know if anyone has successfully removed the ram from the rack while It is still on the vehicle ? Best regards |

Not sure if it can be done in place, the rack is only held in place with 3 bolts so you could loosen them it might help.
