Hi i have pocketed standart pistons on my 1.6 8v setup i will have the catcams spings and retainers kit, i was wondering if this cam is too much for this engine, i donīt want a super agressive car, and i donīt want to go standalone ECU or throttle bodies yet. Should i use this cam or should i downgrade to something like a catcams 671 or even boubis cams profile 288/288

if you don't change or map the ecu any camshaft upgrade is pointless,
I would imagine even a PH2 is too much for a standard piston, a ph5 is something you would absolutely need to do a dry build to confirm clearances, most likely need a good higher compression piston (definitely not wossner) |

you can only go so far in the standard piston, do you know how deep they are and what compression ratio you have?
anything beyond ph1 really needs more compression than standard. |

it is a 16v 1.6 bottom end converted to 8v with pocketed pistons, the block already took catcams 305 degree cams, and since the catcams had 1mm more of valve lift i think this will be ok, these will only have more duration, my main concern is that i end up with a unreliable car and a not so fun car, because the purpose for this car is to go on track days and back roads, not full race, at least not now. and i dont want to spend more money, i have an ax gti, and i will be using the s1 rallye inlet, with the 1.3 marelli loom transformed to fit the AX, thats what i want to stick with.

305 is quite wide - I would say that is racing spec - especially that Cat Cams has aggressive cam lobes. And this can be a issue as not full lift is a problem on the cams but lift on TDC - and idle can be not very nice.
If you find out that this cam is overkill I have for sale this camshaft (let say stage 2): http://www.pipercams.co.uk/pipercams...id=VTRBP270RAL |
