Speeding, Notice of Intended Prosecution

Hi guys.

After a bit of advice really. I have been caught speeding by a sneaky little mobile camera van on Sunday.

40mph limit and I was doing 70mhp. I know, silly of me and I am not looking to kick up a fuss or dispute it.
The conditions were clear with no rain and we'll lit coming round a big swooping corner off a dual carriageway onto a single line of traffic.

I'm away that 66mhp is minimum limit for intended Prosecution so I know I don't qualify for three points and a fine, nor a speed awareness course option.

I intend to take it on the chin, attend court and be cooperative and deal with what's coming but.. What exactly would I have coming??

I've had my licence for 7year without a single point or motoring conviction. Not sure if that makes much difference.

Any idea what I can expect? 6points and a fine? A ban? If so how long? I need my license for work, tour manager for a Dj /producer so I do a lot of driving.

Any advice much appreciated.

5 points and a heft fine.
Don't think you'll get a ban unless the mags are having a particularly bad day.

I was caught doing 61 in a 30. Not proud of it but i got 5 points n 110 fine plus 40 court costs.

I didnt attend court, in a letter i wrote for the judge i couldnt afford time off, cried poverty as i was an apprentice and i would lose my apprentuceship if i lost my lisence.

Not automatically you dont,

as above, depends on the day and wether the magistrate is favourable.
I was caught doing 72 entering a 40 afew years back
And i received 3 points and a 400 fine, I turned up smartly dressed and with a lot of humility, pleaded my job etc (as everyone does)
But i'm convinced that my case was helped by the fact that every case before mine was littered with addidas trackie bottomed chavs hopping about indignantly, wear a suit to show you appreciate the gravity of the situation and kiss ass.

This is exactly what I plan to do. I'm nearly 27 and should have known better so I'll just be civil about it and take it as it comes. I noticed the option of not having to attend court but I think showing my face and being a man about it is worth a shot to get a less severe result.

I really don't want a ban as I drive music artists all over the UK as part of my job..

We all make mistakes and we're all here because we like to drive, no excuse for speeding in a lower limit I know but as a traffic engineer I can tell you there are a lot of Political led BS speed limits out there now!

I'm sure you'll be ok, dress smart, be respectful and plead a good case. Was this new car syndrome by any chance eh

Good look mate.

I got caught doing 50 in a 30 on the wrong side of the road ( yes I know very stupid ) and got caught by a sneaky camera.

They tried doing me for dangerous driving and speeding twice ( obviously can't prosecute for the same offence more then once )

Bearing in mind this was at half 12 at night and not a car in site for miles , just having a little blast and minding my own business.

Had police turn up to my house for me and everything, anyways regardless of going to court smart, being civil and cooperative... I don't think the judges give two sh*ts regardless of the offence or how sorry you could be.

I just got a solicitor and let them deal with it. And boy oh boy was it worth it , got both charges dropped within a month. Even tho it costs abit it is well worth it saving your license or reducing a punishment.

Cheers guys. I'll give that guy a try.

I was out in my 306 Rallye. I only drive it once a week or so and I forget how it goes through the gears so quickly.

You'll be fine with that, you'll get what Mike said just a little less fine's, about 350 with court costs etc at least, 100 just for the cost's now for 5 min case!!

I wouldn't pay for a hot shot lawyer unless you like spending money, if you earn less than 37k you can choose your own & have it paid for for free.

Say if you loose you licence, you'll loose your job, end up loosing your house & end up costing the country money having to be on benifits & a council flat, there's no way they'll bad a honest person & wreck their lift for that mate.

I had it a few month's ago, 55mph in a 30, 6 points & 320 fine inc costs! But they won't ban you because it'll cost the country more in the end, even a dumb ass solicitor can make the magistrates see that. Don't worry about a ban they haven't the need unless your 30mph over the limit, which in a lot of cases you still wouldn't be banned unless it was wreckless/dangerous. I'm assuming you weren't.

Most people drive at similar speeds along that stretch of road. I wondered why cars coking the other way we're flashing at us.

Nice one Chris, that's reassuring. I guess it'll be ages till I hear from the courts anyway so ill have some cash sitting there for a chunky fine!
