J Butler - White S2 blog

PLEASE DO NOT POST

I sold my White S1 to buy this, my second Rallye. It is standard apart from a Pipercross induction kit and a stainless steel decatted Magnex exhaust system with 3.5" single round tailpipe which sounds lovely The first thing I did when I got the car home was to order a Nissens aluminium rad, to replace the leaking standard one, and a decal for the bonnet which had for some reason been removed.

Heres some pics taken the day after I bought her...

New plain numberplates were purchased to replaced the old cracked ones, a vast improvement I think, subtle but affective.

Got out of college early so looked up local scrappys on the net and got a list, the first one we visited was now a council dumping ground so we went to a fairly local one which turned out to be massive. Unfortunately, I could only find o/s 106 mirrors so I settled for an S1 n/s one which looked like it fitted but turns out its a bit out, however will do for now. Also picked up a new rear n/s light seeing as the old one was cracked, a sheet of leather for the boot lol and a parcel shelf without holes in it.

Shame the S1 mirror baseplate doesnt fit aswell but not too noticeable for the time being, will order a new one on ebay now.

Afterwards I visited my local peugeot and ordered a set of new standard engine mounts which I will be collecting tomorrow morning. Also ordered a Raceland 4-2-1 last night which should be with me mid week. Still waiting on my alu rad and decal aswell.

Well since the site went been down I finally recieved my parcel from 106parts! I immediately fitted the bonnet decal and it definately finished off the exterior off the car nicely. Just needs a good clean now!

Also took a piccy of my new nissens rad, its weighs next to nothing. Should be going on this weekend along with my 4-2-1 assuming it comes in time.

It was a nice day today so I decided to get out and give my car a good clean for the first time really. Here are some pics...

Nothing else to report really, I missed the delivery man on Friday so will have to wait until tomorrow for 4-2-1. Waiting on one engine mount which Peugeot didnt stock to arrive if should be there by the end of the month. When that arrives all parts should be fitted at the same time. Also my o/s mirror I ordered from ebay is taking a little longer to arrive than I had originally anticipated.

My manifold came today, and very nice it is too. Just need to get something organised in the way of heat management, and get my ass down Unipart for a new gasket. Can't wait to get it fitted!

Just ordered 26 feet of heat wrap and some straps for the manifold. Am feeling a bit apprehensive about wrapping it as ive heard stainless steel manifolds are heatwrap dont always go down too well although most rallye register members say they havent had any problems with their heat wrapped Racelands so fingers crossed.

I will also need to hacksaw off the welded on heatshield points. I could have course have put a heatshield on, although the standard item doesnt fit, and even if it did the mounts obstruct the bolts that hold the manifold on anyway!

Picked up these wheels today at a bargain price, trial fitted one and took a pic...

Can't fit them properly yet though as I have a lack of long bolts sufficient enough, so wil be ordering them from Rally Design and hopefully have them fitted some time this week.

Thinking of doing them in black also but currently undecided...

Still haven't had to time to get any other parts fitted as ive had a bit of a mad weekend but have broken up from college for easter now so should have plenty of time to work on the car.

Hacksawed the nasty lugs off the manifold...

Then heatwrapped it...

The heat wrap was a bit on the thin side but im definately not complaining considering it was only a tenner from ebay. The straps were also another ebay bargain but were absolute crap. Impossible to tighten without breaking, I ended up wrecking one but luckily my bro had an old spare.

Managed to bodge the new manifold on, snapped one bolt in the head though, luckily not all off, enough left to get a nut over with the manifold on to hold it for now. Have ordered a full new set of nuts and bolts though to tidy it up.

Also, unfortunately my Nissens rad turned out to be the wrong one 106parts can't supply me with the correct one until next week at the earliest so ive sourced one from a local motor factors to pick up on Saturday.

My 'standard' rad I ordered turned out to be a aluminium valeo one, so I wasn't complaining!

Fitted it yesterday only to find out it didnt come with a cap, and the old one didnt fit. Halfords werent stocking the 106 caps either. Soo, I usued my initiative and tried the cap off my brothers Fiesta but unfortunately it was too big. As a last resort I had a look in my mums Rover 400 and it turned out to be a perfect fit so I went down halfords again and bought a rover one for myself to keep her happy!

Since the car has been back on the road ive taken it for a spirited drive and am very happened with the performance from the new manifold, the water temp has also been kept very low which is great.

Here are some pics for good measure.

New rad...

The manifold as fitted (or bodged, for time being!)

...and my new Rover rad cap

Recieved my special long bolts for the alloys yesterday and got them fitted. Im very pleased with the overall look, slightly disapointed as it seems to sid a tad higher at the back now, but I dont think the 55 profile tyres are doing it any favours. Will be changing these for 45s soon enough. Also need to get them balanced! Pics, of course...

New head, cam and vernier are now in the post. Can't wait!

I returned the engine mounts to peugeot, what was originally thought to be a knackered lower mount turned out to be the exhaust hitting on the anti roll bar, which is now sorted.

I recieved the S2 o/s mirror off the ebay yesterday, was disapointed that the baseplate was close to being white, I managed to bring it back to life with some bumper care, however on fitting it turned out to be exactly the same! Nevermind, I reverted back to the old mirror and will be selling the new one, it does the job anyhow.

I gave the car a bit of a clean yesterday, so an excuse for more piccies...

Also ordered my track time for French Car show, woo! Can't wait.

Not much to report recently due to a lack of funds! Standard wheel is back on and in my opinion, looks and feels alot better than the momo wheel. Pics to follow...
