XSi imposter sprint/hillclimb build

It's an early 1992 non-cat 1360, had it for about five years now, with the hope of using it for track days and some speed events.

It's a tired looking Miami Blue S1 that was used daily until the end of 2007.

It needs a new gearbox (on my third one to date), so I sourced this one through the RR.

I've got some aftermarket bits waiting to go on as well.

SD multipoint cage

AP brakes

Gaz coilovers, running 300lb springs and negative camber that Gaz does as part of the build process

Compbrake adj. top mounts

A mate loaned this aerodynamics book, interesting stuff but I can't see me going down that route.

Great stuff!

Im particularly intrested in the aerodynamic research youre doing. I did the same thing with my car and would be intrested in what conclusions you reach

Also your pics are superb, looks like an expensive camera!

Parts collection is looking good so far, but if those top mounts are Compbrake you're going to have a hell of a time making them fit!

P.s give me your cage!

I thought the same.

I've got a Miami blue XSI hillclimber which I run in the 1400-1800 road class but will be going in to the modifieds in 2010 (due to reg changes). This year was my first season (check by blog) I'm taking a slightly different approach, trying to do it on as little money as possible (2nd opel kadett cage, 306 XSi brakes, etc...)

If you have half as much fun as I did this season you'll be hooked, its awesome!!!

Thanks, but it's just a collection of parts at the moment! It's running CP5100 calipers, and that aerodynamic book (Haynes) is an interesting read but as it's only going to be used for fun it's probably not worth the effort.

Yeah I compete in the Lowland championship consisting of hill and sprints in central scotland (Kames, Doune, East Fortune and Forrestburn). Might compete in the scottish next year but alot of events are in the Aberdeen area and its a bit of a drive to the events (dont have a trailer at the mo)

Stugee, do you think you'll ever venture down south

Indigo. They are 285mm discs and DS2500 pads. Everything came as part of the AP Formula Brake Kit, including 5.1 fluid, bells and braided hoses. Judging by your sig, you're already running an AP setup though?

Thanks. Signature is a little mis-leading! Some components are fitted, some are still waiting to be fitted including the brakes.

Yeah that's the one. You reckon? I don't decide what goes where unfortunately!

It's off to Balance Motorsport tomorrow, to have the suspension work done. More updates soon.

Hot air gun, scraper, spotting solvent and 30 minutes later the tar from inside the back arches is off and your car will be 800g lighter, done that to mine yesterday, just got to remove the stuff from the floor pan!

Cool, thanks, I'm looking forward to using them in anger.

More updates... Powerflex bushes went on at the front and the Gaz coilovers are on, leaving the AP's, rear dampers and beam to take care off, and the roll cage.

Thank you.

Here are the wheels - they are 6.5 x 15 but I've just bought some Compomotive MOs to replace them with.

Right, quick update. It's back home, albeit with the rear bumper hanging off, the tracking well out and no middle pedal. The front coilovers are on, as are the brakes, but that's about it. It went to a so called specialist who really didn't have much in the way of a workshop, tools or general hands-on knowledge. Long story.

Thanks, I was going to get a set of matt blacks prior to chossing these. Unfortunately not, the back end is standard because I needed 15s to fit over the brakes.
